JENNIE MCKEOWN January 20, 1924 - September 24, 2017 It is with sadness the family advises the death of Jennie McKeown on September 24, 2017. Mom was born in Fort William on January 20, 1924, daughter of Alex and Annie Tena, where she received her education. In 1942, Mom joined the R.C.A.F. and served until 1946. Upon returning to Fort William, Mom worked at the Land Titles office until September, 1947, at which time she married Thomas William McKeown on September 27, 1947. They left for Atikokan, ON where Tom was Car Foreman for C.N.R. In 1948 they moved to Sioux Lookout, ON where they lived until July 1, 1950 before moving to Winnipeg, MB where they resided the rest of their lives. Mom was predeceased by both parents, sister Sophie Turner, and husband Tom who passed away October 1, 1988. Mom had a very interesting life raising three boys of whom she was very proud. She is survived by Earl (Darlene), Ralph (Laurie) and Brian (Judy), along with five grandchildren David (Liza), Michelle (Ben), Coreen (Mike), Michael (Lelah) and Craig (Lara), and six great-grandchildren Charlie, George, Brayden, Keely, Liam and Levi all of whom she loved dearly. Mom spent many years doing volunteer work. The most rewarding for her was the 12 years as church secretary for Westridge / Donnelly United Church. Mom volunteered to canvas for Red Cross, March of Dimes, Canadian Cancer Society, and Salvation Army. She received a 21 year pin for volunteering with the Heart and Stroke Foundation and also held office in the Ex-R.C.A.F. Women's Division. She started work with the Fort Garry Police Department in 1960 and later transferred to Winnipeg City Police as part of the city amalgamation. Mom retired in January, 1984, and upon retiring worked on many personal projects and enjoyed travelling. She enjoyed many happy years with her companion, Stan Thatcher and his daughters Diane and Susan. At Mom's request, there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, Mom would appreciate donations to Winnipeg Humane Society, Victoria General Hospital and Siloam Mission. • My condolences to Jennie's family on their loss. The world has lost a beautiful soul! You will be missed by myself, George, Jessica and little Adrianna. - Posted by: Lori (Friend) on: Sep 28, 2017

  • Jan worked in the court office for the Fort Garry Police Department and as a young constable in 1969 that is where we first met. I had seen her several times over the years on Pembina Highway and on more than one occasion at the Salisbury House accompanied by her companion Stan. Both very nice people, always with a friendly smile and a hello. Although we had not crossed paths in years I thought about her often. Sad to see the obituary in today's paper. Rest in peace Jan. You are remembered. - Posted by: Ron Campbell (co-worker) on: Sep 27, 2017
