HIROKAZU (HARRY) HAMADE
Date of Passing: Oct 01, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHIROKAZU (HARRY) HAMADE 1933 - 2017 On Sunday, October 1, Harry Hamade peacefully passed away at the age of 84. He is survived by his sisters Terumi Teri and Brenda Michiyo (Earl) Moberg, brother-in-law Denis Hamelin, daughter Cathy (Colin) Babyak, son Thomas (Kina) Hamade, grandchildren Ally and Nate Babyak and Keanen Hamade, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Tomeno and Risuke Hamade, sister Jessie Fujimi Hamelin, and wife Chiyoko Hamade. He was born in Vancouver and lived in the fishing village Ucluelet on Vancouver Island. During the Second World War, the family was relocated to Hastings Park and then Lemon Creek, BC for four years. After the war, the family was sent to Winnipeg and he went to Norquay School. He worked many jobs to help the family - pin setting, furrier, cement factory, cleaning buses and electrician. He applied for a job at Manitoba Telephone System and he said, "this was the best thing that happened to me." He worked there for 38 years. He bowled and curled with the Buffalo Recreation League. While working full time, he saved up to buy a lot near Matlock, MB then cleared the trees and built the cottage with his dad. After retiring, he learned to downhill ski, swam regularly at the Pan Am Pool and he cared for his wife at home when she had breast cancer. He loved to golf in the summer and curled several times a week at the Pembina Curling Club in the winter. Harry exemplified that hard work pays off with his resilience and perseverance. We are so grateful that he shared their humble beginnings so honestly. He has inspired us and he will be missed. Memorial service will be held Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or any charity of your choice.
