WILLIAM PETER HARRISON
Born: Mar 18, 1947
Date of Passing: Oct 12, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM PETER HARRISON March 18, 1947 - October 12, 2017 It is with deep sadness that the family announces the unexpected passing of our father and gido, William Harrison, at St. Boniface Hospital. William (Bill, Wasyl) was born in Dauphin to Michael and Margaret Harrison (nee Lylyk), and passed away at the age of 70 years. He is lovingly survived and remembered by his wife of 47 years, his "Pie" Donna (nee Prokopchuk), daughter Andrea (Brad and granddaughter Rosie), son Ryan, brothers Ernie and John (Valerie), a large extended family, and many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Bill was predeceased by his parents, and his sister-in-law, Olga (Ernie). Bill left us much too soon and will be incredibly missed. Bill grew up in Fork River, MB, the youngest of three brothers. He had a happy childhood, but was not very studious, and consequently spent four years attending St. Joseph's College for boys in Yorkton. He learned to drive at the early age of 14, and worked delivering fuel to farmers for his dad Mike. He developed a love of fast cars, and was most proud of his '68 Mustang. Bill met Donna at 14 years old, when he and his best friend Billy Joe followed her and her cousin Theresa around at a picnic in Broken Pipe Lake, and he was immediately smitten. They were married July 3, 1970 in Sifton, MB. Bill was immensely proud of his children Andrea and Ryan, and was his granddaughter Rosie's biggest fan. He would never let more than a few days pass between pop-ins with Timbits, and loved nothing more than to make her laugh. Bill would do anything for "his girls". Bill always had a twinkle in his eye, accompanied by a mischievous grin...usually up to no good. Stubborn to a fault and quick with a joke, he loved to laugh and have a good time. Bill worked as a public health inspector for the City of Winnipeg for over 35 years, where he made many lifelong friends. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus for many years. Bill loved curling, and skipped for various teams in his fair share of tourneys. He was a long time member and past president of The Heather Curling Club in Winnipeg. Following his retirement in 2005, he and Donna enjoyed travelling to many places including Hawaii, Cuba, the Maritimes, the Jersey Shore, Las Vegas, and Florida. He also enjoyed playing VLTs, and loved finding a good bargain at Wal-Mart, Giant Tiger or Dollarama. He filled his relatives' sheds and garages with antique furniture picked up at auction, another of his favourite pastimes. What Bill enjoyed most was fishing, hunting, and playing cards while drinking vodka and coke, with his buddies and family at his cabin on Singush Lake in the Duck Mountains. He was an avid outdoorsman, and spent countless hours in the woods picking mushrooms and berries. In later years, he greatly enjoyed baking fresh bread and pizza in the outdoor clay oven he built at the lake. The family would like to thank all of the caring and dedicated staff at St. Boniface Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. A Funeral Mass and reception will be held in his honour on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at 10:00 a.m., at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit www.chapellawn.ca Chapel Lawn Funeral Home 204-885-9715

Growing up in Fork River, one had to count Billy among the group of fun loving, active youth who enjoyed life. It is great to remember the 50's, a very good time in most prairie villages. - Posted by: Fr Tom Shymko (Childhood friend) on: Oct 20, 2017

Donna and family, our condolences to you and Wasyl's family. Was shocked to receive an email from Darryl Z saying Wasyl had passed away. We would run into him at Crane River Fish Derby or other family dues and he would always have something funny to say and make us laugh. May he rest in peace. - Posted by: Dianne (Dino) Medwid & Jerry Standryk (acquaintance) on: Oct 17, 2017
