(GEN) GENEVIEVE EILEEN HOWE (NORMAN)
Born: Sep 22, 1915
Date of Passing: Oct 14, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or Memory(GEN) GENEVIEVE EILEEN HOWE (nee NORMAN) September 22, 1915 October 14, 2017 Peacefully on October 14, 2017, our dear mother and grandmother passed away at Deer Lodge Centre, following a brief illness. She was 102 years old and of sound mind 'til the end. Gen was predeceased by her loving husband Stan; her parents, Frank and Alice Norman; her brother Oz; and sister-in-law Marg. She is survived by her sons, Norman and Gord (Mar); and grandchildren, Gena (Devan) and Nelson; and favourite nephew Sheldon (Charlene). Mom grew up on Alexander Street and graduated from the University of Winnipeg, becoming a physical education teacher. Following her marriage to dad and a brief stint in Toronto, they returned to Winnipeg and started their family, eventually moving to St. James, where she resided until her passing. In her youth, mom was a competitive swimmer and diver, and later a golfer (club champ) and curler (won numerous bonspiels). She taught Sunday School at Deer Lodge United and volunteered at the Grace Hospital for over 40 years. She enjoyed summers at the Winnipeg Beach cottage she and Stan built, puzzles, bird watching, gardening, baking, ceramics and reading (not Margret Atwood). She loved staying in touch with the numerous friends and distant relatives throughout the world. She loved her family and her cats, she loved the Queen and Lady Di and everything Royal. She had a great big heart and took care of everyone. Mom you were an inspiration to us all and we will miss you tremendously. A memorial service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue on Friday, October 20 at 2:00 p.m. with a reception to follow. The Deer Lodge Ladies Curling Club remembers Gen with great fondness. We know that she remembered her time with the club with fondness too. We appreciated her ongoing interest in her club even after she could no longer curl. Her sporting spirit lives on in the club. Please accept our condolences. - Posted by: Deer Lodge Ladies Curling Club (Via Karen Dewar, past president of DLLCC) on: Oct 19, 2017

Although Gen was not my real aunt, I always called her Aunt Gen. I thought she was the smartest, kindest person I ever knew. I never saw her without that beautiful smile on her face. I truly loved her. - Posted by: Carol Tomes (Friend) on: Oct 19, 2017
