Ted worked at Stony Mountain Penitentiary when I was there in 2014-15. He was a colleague and friend of my mentor Steve Masterson. In Ted's capacity as a Chaplain for the Salvation Army at Stony me and him developed a strong rapport. He even baptized me in segregation on Feb. 2, 2015. Ted’s love and humility were absolutely the core of his character in Christ. I look forward to the day I see his face again. - Posted by: Joey (Parishoner) on: May 01, 2022

I am saddened to hear of Ted's passing and pray the Lord will extend strength and grace to Ted's family to sustain them in a time of sorrow such as this. We often met on trips north or at conferences of one kind or another and often ate together in the evenings and discussed theology and the other things that really matter in life. Ted was a caring man who planted kindness in many ways and in whom the fruit of the Holy Spirit was grew more plain over the years. I liked Ted a lot and always looked forward to travelling when I knew Ted would be waiting at the destination. By God's grace, we'll meet again. - Posted by: Boyd Jahnke (colleague at MSC (AES)) on: Jan 05, 2021

I was one of the Appel children, lived at 11932 52nd Street. Another former childhood neighbor, Marlene (Dyksley), whose parent's garden abutted the Sawchuck home, emailed me ... asking if I remembered. Oh yes, most of the 52nd street folks are still in occasional conversations with my siblings. Let me extend genuine sympathy to the entire Ted Sawchuck tribe; Ted was obviously a much-loved and respected individual. And, he loved/served the Lord, which means Ted is eternally in the presence of the Most High, Triune God, along with those who've gone before. May the Holy Spirit nudge you to hunker close to our Savior, Jesus, when sorrow overtakes. I too, lost my 98-yr. old Mum early March this year. She too is home in glory! - Posted by: Elizabeth (Betty) Appel (Childhood neighbours) on: Nov 19, 2017

Ted was a great encouragement to me when I was the Corps Officer at The Salvation Army East Kildonan Citadel. Many times he would call me and we would get together for coffee at the Forks to discuss how to improve the Men's ministries in the city and Division. I valued his insights and friendship, and pray God's peace for the family during these days. - Posted by: Major Daniel Roode (Friend) on: Nov 03, 2017

I have the great honour of knowing the Sawchuk family and in a very difficult time of my life they took me in as one of their own. Ted was the definition of grace, love, and understanding. He had such a passion for life, for God. And He was a man who loved his family beyond words. I'll never forget the memories. His famous hamburgers, potatoe salad and sitting around the fire just enjoying the time with family. My heart is broken and although I cannot be there in person, my thoughts are with all of the family. Love and prayers.
