DELPHINE YVONNE MARIE COONEY (nee DESROCHES) It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Delphine on Monday, November 6, 2017 at the age of 88. Delphine was predeceased by her husband James Francis, and is survived by her daughters Colleen (Ernie), Allison, and grandson BJ (Amy). Delphine is also survived by her siblings Gertie, Annette and Gilles (Lottie), her brother-in-law Don, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Valmor and Marie Desroches, her brother Joe, and her sisters Germaine, Donalda and Della. Born in Laurier, MB, Delphine worked in neighbouring town, Ste. Rose du Lac at her brother-in-law's family store, getting to know the community, before moving to Winnipeg to seek her fortune. She worked as a stenographer at The Winnipeg Clinic, National School Studios, and ultimately the Securities Commission for the Provincial Government. She and her Irishman, James, raised two beautiful daughters, and have one grandchild who filled her heart with joy. She was an active person, always renovating the house, recovering furniture, repurposing something or puttering around the yard. She was known for her many walks along Fleet Avenue near her home, and was always happy to have a visit with someone who would take the time to speak slowly or write her notes, due to her hearing impairment. In 2015, she received the gift of hearing again, being the proud recipient of a Cochlear Implant, and was able to communicate and make some new friends in her final years. A service will take place at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association, the Manitoba Alzheimer Society, or Central Speech & Hearing Clinic Inc. for the Cochlear Implant program by phone 204.275.7436 (ask for Kelly Boyd). Very special thanks to the staff at Tuxedo Villa who were so kind to Delphine and comforted her at this time. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I grew up on Lindsay Street, between Fleet and Corydon, and my late mom Dorothy was good friends with Del and Jim and valued those friendships. My own memories are dim understandably, but I know mom loved them both. I offer my sincere condolences to her daughters and the rest of her family. - Posted by: Gord Richardson () on: Nov 11, 2017
