MAGGIE (PEGGY) DUNCAN SAMM (nee COUTTS) December 4, 1919 - December 9, 2017 Peggy, called Grandma by her family, was born in Aberdeen, Scotland and passed away peacefully at Meadowood Manor at the age of 98. Peggy and her husband Maurice began their married life in Brooks, Alberta where together they had three sons: John, David, and Allan. After Maurice's early death in 1956, she moved back to Winnipeg where she raised her family with help from her parents, Bell and John Coutts. Peggy was a dedicated volunteer at St. Alban's Anglican Church, until it closed in 2007, and was head of the Altar Guild for over 40 years. She loved and valued her family and as a talented quilter, she gifted beautiful quilts to all of her seven grandchildren and to her seven great-grandchildren. Grandma's thoughtfulness will be greatly missed (as well as her shortbread cookies and pie). Peggy is survived by her three sons, John (Betty), David (Helen), and Allan. She will also be fondly remembered by her seven grandchildren, Maurice, Leighann, Christopher, June, Cheryl, Garrett and Alyssa; and her seven great-grandchildren, Skylar, Mackenzie, Kai, Quinn, Alison, Xander, and Fiona. Peggy was a spiritual person who unwaveringly held on to her beliefs. She valued family, friends, and God. In her own words: "If I made mistakes, I did my best and I love you all." A celebration of her life will be held in April, 2018. Memorial donations may be made to Meadowood Manor Recreation Department, 577 St. Anne's Road, Winnipeg, MB R2M 3G5 or World Vision Canada at donate.worldvision.ca/products/memory.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • We were blessed at Churchill Park United to have Peggy join us when St. Albans closed. She brought with her her quilting group. Her gentleness and concern for others were so evidently part of her. She was a gift to us. We offer our sympathy to her family at this time. May your memories of Peggy bring you comfort. May God be with you. Rev. Janet Walker - Posted by: Rev. Janet Walker (Minister) on: Dec 26, 2017

  • I remember Peggy very fondly both walking down our street on Walker, as well as at St. Albans. My mom also respected Peggy and told me so! - Posted by: Joan Monson nee Fisher (Daughter of Renee Fisher) on: Dec 16, 2017
