WILLIAM WESLEY KIRK Peacefully on December 16, 2017 our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away at the Grace Hospital, with his daughter at his side, at the age of 96 years. Left to lovingly remember Bill are his daughter Beverley (Thomas) Rhoades; granddaughters Shannon (Ronald) Roberts and Shelly Rhoades; great-granddaughters Kathryn Roberts, Kyrstyn Roberts and Paige Hall; great-grandson Spencer Hall; brother John (Anne) Kuryk; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Katie, of 71 years; his infant son William Kirk Jr.; parents Fred and Lena Kuryk; and sister Ann Melnychuk. Bill's passion for his life-long vocation of accounting was evident to all who came in contact with him. In March 1940 he arrived on Elk Island, God's Lake, Manitoba as an employee of God's Lake Gold Mines Ltd. By autumn of 1941 he was promoted to the position of Cost Accountant, at the age of 20. Upon the gold industry's removal from the wartime essential industries list, Bill left God's Lake and enlisted in the R.C.A.F. (Air Crew) on July 21, 1942. He graduated as a Navigator, and promoted to Pilot Officer. As Honour Graduate of his course, he served as a Navigation Instructor at #1ANS Rivers and #5AOS Winnipeg, Manitoba. Discharged on October 23, 1945, Bill continued his Certified General Accountants Certificate course at United College, Ontario. On May 15, 1946 he hung out his shingle under the banner of W.W. Kirk and Company, and subsequently qualified for a Certified Public Accountant Certificate (CPA) and also a Certified General Accountant Certificate (CGA). He practiced for 60 years and retired on June 30, 2006. Bill loved vacationing with his wife Katie and travelled extensively throughout North America with her for over 35 years, creating memories which were shared in retirement. His main purpose in life was to love and support his family, both immediate and extended, in all of their endeavours. In keeping with Bill's wishes, a private family service will be held at a later date where he will be reunited with his wife Katie in Brookside Cemetery, 3001 Notre Dame Avenue. The family would like to thank the staff of The Westhaven and of the Grace Hospital for their kind and compassionate care of our "GiGi". In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of your choice may be made in Bill's memory.
