MARCO MARIO FURLAN Peacefully, after a prolonged illness, our dear uncle, great-uncle, godfather and friend passed away on January 29, 2018 at the Riverview Health Centre. He is survived by nephews, Danny, Lou, Chris, Mark (Kerry) and Aldo Furlan and nieces, Eileen MacDonald (Ian) and Anita Furlan; nephew Ken Cumming (Chris), niece Carolyn Smith (Roy), and niece-in-law Judi Cumming. He was predeceased by his beloved parents Marco and Amelia Furlan, brother Father Aldo Furlan in 1963, brother Louis Furlan in 1985, nephew Gerry Cumming in 1986, and his beloved sister Miria Cumming in 2010. "Mickey" was born on December 17, 1931, the youngest child of Marco and Amelia Furlan. His early life revolved around social events at Holy Rosary Church and outings with "the gang" - a group of friends that he maintained contact with all through his life. He attended Hugh John MacDonald School and St. Paul's High School. In his 20s, he worked at the Manitoba Power Commission (now Manitoba Hydro) and, after obtaining his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Manitoba, he began his teaching career at Red River College. Mick spent his life in service to others - caring for his beloved parents, sister and nieces and nephews, and supporting many charities. He loved children and was thrilled to be a great-uncle to Paul, Tom, Heather, Mike, Lindsay, Shannon, Colleen, Jessica and Grant. He enjoyed going out to brunch after Mass with his friends and sister, and getting together for family events at the MacDonald, Furlan and Smith households. His faith and the teachings of the Roman Catholic faith were his anchor and guiding light. Mick was a man who gave his time, talent and treasure unselfishly. He was a good and faithful servant of God. He never doubted the promise of eternal life and is now reunited with family members who have gone before him. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Gerald Langevin celebrant and Father Sam Argenziano concelebrant at Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Boniface Hospital Research Foundation, or the Society of St. Vincent de Paul at St. Timothy's Parish, 135 John Forsyth Road, Winnipeg, MB R2N 1R3. The family wishes to express its gratitude to the excellent staff of Riverview Health Centre and the Misericordia Health Centre. A special thank you to Dr. Wolfgang Heidenreich of Meadowood Medical Centre for the excellent care and support provided to Mick through the years.
