Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELLEN RUTH MILES Passed away peacefully on February 9, 2018 in the company of her granddaughter. Ellen was born October 11, 1927 on her grandparents' farm in Grandview, MB. She grew up on her parents' farm and went to Rose Ridge, a one-room school. Then she boarded in Grandview and went to High School there. After graduating, she taught in a rural school for one year just after the war. In 1947, she married Ellsworth Presley and moved to Winnipeg, She worked at several jobs ending with Revenue Canada (1965 to 1987) where she retired. She leaves to mourn her two sons: Terry (Geraldine and daughter, Taryn) and Darrell (Darlene) and her son-in-law: Wayne Tait (daughters Chelsey and Courtney). She is also survived by six stepchildren, two great-grandchildren, 15 step grandchildren, 12 step great-grandchildren, one sister Rose Harrison, two brothers Kenneth and Roy Dempster and many cherished nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her second husband Edward Miles, her only daughter Dawn Ellen Tait, her parents Earl and Lily Dempster, two brothers Omer and Ray Dempster, her sister and brother-in-law Mary and Reg Spokes and her granddaughter Jennifer Gerus. Ellen met her second husband, Edward Miles, at Revenue Canada where he worked after he retired from the Air Force. They were married in November, 1980 and settled into a new home in North Kildonan. Both Ellen and Ted were great sports fans and loved to travel. They visited every continent except Australia and Antarctica. They finally decided on wintering in Arizona and bought a mobile home in Mesa. They spent many enjoyable winters in the warm, dry climate. She was also a great sports fan, but always a "Homey" cheering for the Blue Bombers, Jets, Moose and Goldeyes. Her other interests included spending time with her grandchildren, making crafts, reading and entertaining family and friends. Ellen moved into Kildonan House in May 2011 and it soon became her home. Service will take place at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue on Friday, March 9, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Interment and reception to follow.
