Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM ALEC (BILL) SHERLOCK William Alec (Bill) Sherlock, 95, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grand-father, uncle and friend, died February 13, 2018, at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. Bill was born on October 22, 1922, in Australia, to William Sherlock and Ruby Herd. While training with the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan near Winnipeg, Bill met Dorothy. It was love at first sight for both. They were married in Australia where they lived for five years before relocating to Winnipeg in 1953. They celebrated 70 years together in August 2017. They raised four children, gained four more when they married, and were blessed with 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Completely committed to his family, Bill's favourite activity was spending time with them. Bill worked at the Hamilton Spectator newspaper in Australia and then spent 36 years working at the Grain Exchange in Winnipeg. Because of his strong faith in God, he served in many areas at Bethel Baptist Church. He enjoyed playing golf with his sons and buddies, fixing anything and everything, helping Dorothy in any way he could, reading, driving anywhere, and playing games with his family. Bill is survived by his wife, Dorothy, and their children, William (Pam) Sherlock, David (Jennifer Robinovitch) Sherlock, Anne (Harold) Penner and Alan (Lorna) Sherlock. His grandchildren are Jesse and Joel Sherlock; Eddie and Molly Sherlock; Tristan (Eliza) Penner and their daughters, Addie and Lyra; Arlie (James) Harnett and their children, Callum, Sena and Emery; Raena Penner and her daughter Soren; Breana, Arlie and Riley Sherlock. He was greatly loved and will be sorely missed. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Union Gospel Mission, P.O. Box 1073 STN Main, Winnipeg, MB R3C 2X4.
