THOMAS ROY MEADS April 24, 1955 - February 25, 2018 Tom passed away peacefully at Selkirk Hospital with family at his side. After his cancer diagnosis, the first thing he said was, "I'm not going down without a fight." And he did just that. Unfortunately it was a fight he couldn't win. He was predeceased by his father Frank and his father-in-law Fernley Edmonds. He will be forever remembered by his wife and best friend Cindy, his son Oliver (Jen, Isaac) and his son Aaron (Nick, Cain, Parker). He also leaves behind to miss him deeply, his mother Mabel, brothers, Cliff (Linda), Lorne (Lori) and Don (Cheryl), sister Susan (Terry), brothers, Fred (Dianne), Bill (Linda) and Vic (Amanda) and sister Barb (Bruce). He was also the extremely proud uncle of 19 nieces and nephews and their families. Also left to cherish his memory are his mother-in-law Marguerite Edmonds, sister-in-law Kerry, brother-in-law Geoff, and friend and father-in-law David Rowson. Tom was born third in line to Frank and Mabel Meads in the Stonewall Hospital that he was always proud to tell people his dad helped build. He grew up on the farm and often commented that it was a great place to grow up and to raise a family. He was a hard worker. No matter the task, he would always give it the best he could. He always rooted for "the little guy" and had a live and let live outlook. He met Cindy at a high school dance in January of 1974 and were married in August of 1975. He farmed with Cindy's family until his father-in-law's passing. Not sure what else to do, he thought trucking might be the answer. He started out at Feed Rite with Cam and Lori and then went to long haul. Being a quiet guy and enjoying the changes of the seasons, trucking seemed to be the right fit. He claimed he felt bad when he'd call home from California and it was -30 at home. His final work place was New Hope Transport and he was really content working there. He would often comment on how great a bunch of people he worked for and with and was so pleased to have met and worked with Bruno, who he was proud to call his friend. For those who choose, a donation of "A Gift of Hope" through Plan Canada would be much appreciated as it was something very important to Tom. A celebration of Tom's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Transcona Alliance Church, 751 Kildare Avenue East, Winnipeg, MB. Please give my condolences to your family and most of all Cindy; I know you will treasure every minute of every day the memories you and Tom built over the years.
