NICOLE MICHELLE BRUCE April 27, 1972 - January 11, 2018 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing, in California, of our beloved Nicole, daughter of Donna Rose (Allan) and mother of Charissa Bruce (Adam). She is survived by her sister Shannon Bruce and by her brothers Kelly Ackerman (Rebecca) and Sam van Berkel (Jana). She will also be missed by her aunt Dorothy and husband, cousins Koren and Warren; aunt Janet Alonso and cousins Art, Rod, Ben and Walter; aunt Faye Malone (Dennis), cousins Jamie and Kelli; uncle George Schwartz (Grace), cousins Karla and Wade; aunt Angie Wood-Bruce, cousins Lyle and Brett (Godson). Nicole was predeceased by her father Brian Martin Bruce, June 11, 2012; her uncle Leslie Bruce, January 2, 2011; and her grandparents Walter (2005) and Miriam (2008) Schwartz. Our Niki's unexpected passing came following complications due to injuries suffered in a sailboating mishap. She was known for her youthful, vibrant personality described as: "Her Presence filled up the room!" She was born in Winnipeg, graduated from Gordon Bell High School, was employed at the North West Company, and finally became a self-employed entrepreneur, in ways that brought out her versatile talents. She had many loyal clients and devoted friends both in Manitoba and California during that time. She will be deeply missed, for her kind and generous heart, inspiring creativity and her joyful enthusiasm. Memorial / celebration of Nicole's life: April 27 (her birthday) 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m., Unitarian Universalist Church, 603 Wellington Crescent, Winnipeg. MB.

  • Miss you everyday, How we remodelled the house on Erin as well as taking care of other rentals as well as spending our time together. Others did not understand you as I did. Miss you love you - Posted by: Bob (Partner) on: Jan 11, 2022

  • As we approach the first anniversary of her passing, thoughts of my good friend seem to come at unexpected times. We shared an incredible amount of living into a few short years of friendship. I remember the night we met like it was yesterday and I can’t look upon Ye Olde Watering Hole the same way again. You were a true friend and I miss you still. If there is another side, seeing you will sure be nice someday. - Posted by: Elijah Mowbray (Close Friend) on: Dec 12, 2018

  • I first met Nicole when our daughters where approximately 2 years old . We immediately connected due to our daughters being of similar ages, we babysat for each other and then started hanging out together, I was working at the North West Company where I helped her get a job. I recall warning my supervisor not to sit Nicole at the desk right beside me as we would be to silly together, she didn't believe me but awhile after listening to our giggles we where put at desks further apart. It was really very silly, but with Nicole my heart felt lighter then it had in a long time and it was easy to share stories and laughs with her. She was one of my long term besties. I loved this girl. My deepest condolences to Charissa and Rose. - Posted by: Lee-Anne (friend) on: Apr 12, 2018

  • I first met Nicole in Varadero, CUBA about 10 or more years ago. She bonded immediately with me and my 3 friends, Wendy, Lila and Mary. We went on a catamaran tour with her and had such fun! We met up a couple of times after that while we were still in Cuba. Back in Winnipeg, I encountered her once again while I was working at Home Depot. She came in often (especially in the evenings when I liked to work) and everyone at Home Depot flocked to her as she was a people magnet! We kept in touch and even contemplated a trip to Varadero again! I was shocked and saddened to learn of her passing. I liked Nicole very, very much! Home Depot employees will be sad to hear this news - she was one of the awesome customers we'll all remember and cherish her memory! *Penny - Posted by: Penny Flock (friend) on: Mar 13, 2018

  • I got to know Nicole years ago when her daughter and my children were small, and Nicole joined our church choir. We read Scripture together, and she was so hungry to know Jesus. We moved away but stayed in touch until about 3 or 4 years ago. I was so sorry to hear that she had died. My memory of her will always be of a woman with great capacity for joy in life, and so capable at so many things - those amazing cookies, the do-it-yourself home renovations, you name it. Charissa, you and the family are in our prayers. - Posted by: Nancy Craig (friend) on: Mar 10, 2018

  • We were heartbroken to hear of Nicole’s passing, having had the pleasure of knowing her for many years going back to our time in Kinsmen. She did indeed, light up the room when she was in it, and will be missed by many. Sincere condolences to Charissa and family. Rest in peace, dear Nicole. - Posted by: Sherry and Gary Julius (Friends) on: Mar 07, 2018

  • My sincerest condolences on the passing of this lovely light. I met Nicole at a few Kin functions but mostly got to know her during my short stint with the Kinette Club of Winnipeg. • We met Nicole through her father who is a relative of the family. From the beginning, Nicole was very easy to love. She was friendly, fun and wore her heart on her sleeve for everyone. Personally we felt a deep connection with Nicole as I am sure many feel the same way. We managed to keep a close friendship despite our distance. We were blessed with her visit when we lived in Durham, England and again in London, England. Recently we have moved to Zürich, Switzerland and had contacted Nicole hoping deep down that maybe we would meet again. We received an email from her which must of been shortly before her passing. True to character, Nicole mentioned her situation but still sounded cheerful and positive. It saddens us deeply to know we won’t see her. We think of her often and are very grateful to have had her in our lives. A true blessing. A true angel. Many condolences to Nicole’s family and friends with much love from Sophie, Chris, Solène and Sevrin Inkster - Posted by: Sophie, Chris, Solène and Sevrin Inkster (Friends ) on: Mar 03, 2018
