Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPAULINE STANKO (nee FEDORCHUK) It is with great sadness that the family of Pauline Stanko announces her passing after a brief illness, on June 24, 2018, at 91 years of age. She was born on July 1, 1926 to Paul and Mary Fedorchuk in Garland, Manitoba where she attended the Zalicia one-room school. After graduating as a teacher, she taught in a number of one-room schools throughout Manitoba. She married Walter Stanko and resided in Ashville, before moving to Dauphin. After the death of her husband Walter, Pauline returned to teaching while taking night classes and summer school at Brandon University. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education degree in 1975. She completed her teaching career in Dauphin and settled for retirement in Winnipeg to remain close to her family. Pauline was the loving mother of Dr. Carmen Stanko (Dr. Allan Neiman) and Dr. Lorraine Stanko (Randy Winchar), grandmother of Dr. Kelcey Winchar, David Neiman and Morgan Winchar. Her greatest pride was the hard work and success of her children and grandchildren. She was predeceased by her siblings, Mike, Walter, Bill, Nellie and Tony. She will be remembered for her passion for education, reading, cooking, and gardening, all of which have been ardently adopted by her children and grandchildren. We will miss her pedeha, holopchi, and chicken soup, as well as her lengthy annual reading lists and book recommendations. She was a wealth of knowledge for cultivating a thriving garden, planting all of her beds full of flowers and vegetables, even in her final days. She was kind and generous, always putting the needs of others before her own. She was a true role model for hard work, independence, and sacrifice. We will always remember celebrating each of her birthdays with fireworks at Assiniboine Park; Canada Day will never be the same. A private family gathering to celebrate Pauline's life will be held at a later date. As a rookie grade 6 teacher at the Smith Jackson School, Mrs. Stanko was in the room next to mine. We were colleagues at the school for 7 years and I always found your mother to be cheerful, friendly, encouraging and helpful. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. Carmen and Lorraine and family, Debbie and I wish to express our deepest sympathy in the loss of your mother Pauline. As I go down memory lane I recall the times my mother Gertrude, Debbie and I would visit Pauline at her house in Dauphin. She always had a bountiful garden and would share some of her produce with my mother. Pauline was a courageous women, having looked after her husband at home with a terminal illness. We always enjoyed our visits with Pauline and the aunts Sally and Victoria. May she rest in peace Treasure the memories. - Posted by: adrienne simms (friend) on: Jul 01, 2018

I am so saddened to hear of Auntie Pauline's passing. She was a true, strong woman and I wish I would have stayed in touch with her after Dad passed away. I remember visiting in Dauphin when we were all small and how welcoming Pauline was all the time. She was a wonderful mother and person. My condolences to all both Carmen and Lorraine and families. - Posted by: Gail Fedorchuk (Family) on: Jun 30, 2018

My memory of Aunt Pauline was always the summer vacation to Ethelbert or Garland, many years ago, passing through Dauphin to visit her. Her garden was tremendous, peas, raspberries, carrots. And always "eat, eat" from her. Carmen and Lorraine, our thoughts are with you at this time. - Posted by: Garry Fedorchuk (Nephew ) on: Jun 30, 2018
