EDWIN KLASSEN Edwin Klassen passed away peacefully on July 30, 2018, in his 83rd year. He was born in Arnaud, Manitoba, second youngest in a sibline of nine, and often spoke fondly of his childhood. He attended the University of Manitoba, ultimately completing a Master's degree in engineering. A dedicated public servant, he worked for the municipal government in Winnipeg, finally as Manager of engineering for Waterworks and Waste. Ed was a renaissance man, who enjoyed golf, skiing, renovations, playing the guitar, and singing, many of which took place especially at his beloved cottage at Falcon Lake, Manitoba. He was also committed to his community; he served on the Board of Concordia Hospital and the Manitoba Hospitals Association, and volunteered at Winnipeg Mennonite Theatre and First Mennonite Church. With his cherished wife Melanie at his side, he spent his retirement years travelling the world. Ed lived a values-driven life, a life of integrity, contribution to his community, and devotion to those he loved. Ed loved his family, his friends, his cottage, his province, his country, and most of all his wife and partner in life, Melanie. He will be deeply missed. A memorial service will be held at Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home on Tuesday, August 7, 2018, at 1:30 pm. The family wish to thank the staff their for their caring and service to Ed in his last years.

My sincere condolences on your loss. I pray that memories of happier times will see you through your time of grief! "God gave us memory so we might enjoy roses in winter." I am a respected researcher of Mennonite genealogy, and would like to connect your loved one to his/your family and ancestry. I cannot find him in major sources based on the limited information in his obituary. It would be a tragedy if his place in history is forever lost. My on-line project contains over 475,000 individuals, including more than 10,000 Klassens. Please contact me at an appropriate time if you are willing to share/exchange details. Thank you. All information about living individuals is suppressed to protect your/their privacy. - Posted by: Bob Strong () on: Aug 05, 2018

So sad to learn of Ed's passing. I very much enjoyed our association together at the City of Winnipeg over the years. Ed's advice and guidance in water and waste matters was always professional and welcome. Ed's wonderful sense of humour and fun was a delight to witness at some of those water and waste retirement parties I was privileged to attend. Sincere condolences to Melanie and family in your time of loss. Ed will be missed. Well done, good and faithful servant. - Posted by: Jae Eadie (Friend) on: Aug 04, 2018
