Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCAMILO (LOLOY) BALBUENA September 19, 1949 - October 23, 2018 After battling cancer for two years, Camilo peacefully passed away, with family by his side. He will be remembered by his wife, Rose; his sons, Anthony and Romell (Karen); adopted daughter Annie (Mike) Lauze; and his grandchildren, Raelynn, Gabriel, Gavin, Shaiel, CJ, Lee, Rikka, Mikey, Rand, Min, Willow, Faith and Rachel; as well as his sister Dr. Dolores Alcantara; brother Diosdado; and by his many cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws. He was predeceased by his parents, Glicerio and Maura (Sarmiento) Balbuena; his sisters, Inday Soling, Jacinta, Ulderica, and brothers, Dalmacio, Francisco, Buenaventura and David. Camilo was born and raised in Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte, Mindanao, Philippines. During his high school and college years he served as commanding officer in ROTC. After finishing at St. Vincent's College in Dipolog City, he joined the Philippine Army and served for three years becoming a sergeant in the Military Police. When he was given the opportunity to immigrate to Canada, he received an honourable discharge. He came to Canada on September 17, 1976. He joined Varta Batteries where he made many lifelong friends. He worked there till its closing in 1990. Then he joined as a health care attendant at Holiday Haven Nursing Home. He worked there till his retirement in 2009 at the age of 60. During this time, as well, he and his wife ran their own care home. Camilo was loved and respected by all. To many he was Kuya or Manong or Tatay Loloy. He was active in his faith his whole life and supported his church. He participated in many activities and groups and was also a past president of the BISAMAN organization. Lamay service will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. on Friday, November 9, 2018 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at St. Patrick's Parish, 172 Worth Street, Winnipeg, MB. Reception after the funeral will be from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Breezy Bend Country Club, 7620 Roblin Blvd., Headingley, MB.
