GARY KOWAL

Family and friends are very sad to announce the sudden passing of Gary Joseph Kowal on Friday, June 7, 2019.
Gary is survived by his mother Ida Kowal, sisters, Shirley (Marc) Marleau, Carolyn (Colin) Gillespie and Gayle (Carl) Martin, along with nephew Jacob. Gary was predeceased by his father Joseph.
Gary was born at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg on July 15, 1965.
Although Gary endured many challenges throughout his life, he was always very strong and determined, even at a very young age. It was a very difficult decision to move him from his home life to a more supportive environment at around nine years of age. It was when he arrived back in Winnipeg at St. Amant Centre in 1983, from Manitoba School in Portage La Prairie, that his life experience was further enriched. It was at St. Amant that Gary found not only support and caring, but also fun and fulfilment for the last 36 years of his life. He made many friends and experienced a lot of adventures but none as great as his trip to Alberta with Allen, Michelle and Robin in summer of 2017. He enjoyed his outings so much and would never pass up the chance for a car ride. If that included a visit to A&W - all the better! When he burst into laughter, it was pure joy and he was happiest when able to "people watch" and feel the wind hit his face with the window down while out on a summer's day.
Gary and his family wish to thank Grace Hospital Emergency and ICU staff as well as the MICU at Health Sciences Centre for their care and consideration during this difficult time. Most of all, we are eternally grateful to the wonderful people at St. Amant who made Gary's life richer, fuller and more meaningful because of their love and support. For this reason, donations in memory of Gary may be made to the St. Amant Foundation.
A celebration of his life will be held at the Chapel at St. Amant Centre, 440 River Road, on Thursday, June 20 at 1:30 p.m.
