DOROTHY SOBIESKI
(nee MELNYK)
March 7, 1922 - July 26, 2019
Remaining to cherish Dorothy's memory are her daughter Jennifer; sister Rose Brykaliuk; brother Peter Melnyk; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Stanley; parents, Nicholas and Anne Melnyk; sisters, Anne (Paul) Gensiorek, Gladys (Tony) Sawchuk, Margaret (Peter) Kostiuk, Natalie (Joe) Keller, Merle (John) Sysa and Olivia (Bill) Boychuk; brother-in-law Mike Brykaliuk; and sister-in-law Faith Melnyk.
On March 7, 1922, Dorothy was born on the homestead in the Municipality of Rossburn, Manitoba. As a young woman, she moved to Winnipeg and took up a career as a seamstress. Later she changed careers and spent the next 21 years working in the operating rooms at the Health Sciences Centre; retiring in the Spring of 1987.
She was a loving and caring mother to Jennifer. Dorothy, Stan and Jennifer enjoyed many years at their cottage in Grand Marais. Each of them appreciated the friendships with their Winnipeg and cottage neighbours.
The family would like to extend many thanks to the wonderful staff on the second floor of the Poseidon Care Centre for their compassionate care over the years.
In her memory, a graveside memorial at Brookside Cemetery will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2019 at 12:30 p.m. If you are unable to attend the graveside memorial, you are welcome to attend a celebration of Dorothy's life at 1:30 p.m. in the Friendship Room at the Poseidon Care Centre located at 70 Poseidon Bay, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
