SANDRA KATHRYN SLIGHT
(nee GILMOUR)

We are saddened to announce the sudden passing of Sandy on August 9, 2019 at her residence.
She is survived by husband Terry "Senior"; daughter Kathryn (Mike) O'Gorman; son Terry (Jamie) Slight; grandchildren, Eva, Vera, Poppy and Leo Slight; nephew Ryan (Alison) Slight; niece Tara (Sean) Merry; and sister-in-law Bernice (Mel) Feeney.
Born in Stirling, Scotland, immigrated to Canada with her parents, Patricia and Peter Gilmour at age 13. Sandy, over 25 years as a synchronized swimming judge, earned her Level 4 National status. She travelled across Canada during her career judging numerous competitions, including Canada winter and summer games. Sandy was also a tireless volunteer in her community and received the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal.
Sandy had a generosity of spirit - her home was always open, her bar always stocked, her library free for the taking and her meals gourmet and plentiful. She would try to teach us some Scottish sayings like "Fou the Noo" and "Lang may your lem reek."
Every week she hosted her famous "family night"; this is a tradition she started with her Mom. She would create amazing meals and desserts made with love, but the time spent together was most important - you never wanted to miss it. Her razor-sharp wit and dry sense of humour would surprise and delight.
She enjoyed and always looked forward to spending time at both Pleasant Valley and Mesa so she could golf and do her favourite thing: hang out with her family and friends.
A grateful thank you to CancerCare Manitoba.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no service as per her wish.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation in her memory.
