BOHDAN (JOHN) CHMILOWSKY
October 9, 1931 - October 23, 2019

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Bohdan (John) Chmilowsky, aged 88 years, at the Health Sciences Centre.
He is survived by his loving wife Anna, of 64 years; children, Grant (Gaileen) of Seattle, Washington and Tracy (Al) Castelein of Teulon, MB; grandchildren, James, Jonathon (Taylor) and Saraya, and great-grandson Cylas. John will be sadly missed by his nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his infant son (Baby John); mother and father, and all his siblings, Harry, Fred, Steve, Anne, Mary and Wally.
Born in St. Norbert and living in Winnipeg in a house he and his wife built, John worked at Canada Packers for 23 years. His family then moved to Fraserwood in 1975, to run the Tourist Hotel for the next 20 years. It is here where many friends and memories were made and will be forever cherished.
You will be forever missed and always remembered, my loving husband, and our dearest Dad.
Respecting John's wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held.

Condolences may be left on his tribute wall at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com

Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli
in care of arrangements.

  • John was my uncle...I never did get to know them well....as I lived in Winnipeg and they lived in Fraserwood...but I do have a good memory....my Autie Anna and Uncle John gave my mom and dad her beloved dog snoopy....never did get the reason....but I am assuming it was because the could not run the hotel and take care of snoopy....one day my Autie Anna and Uncle John came to visit and snoopy was so excited to see her that she....well...peed on the floor....it was so heart warming to see that she remembered them. RIP Uncle John. So sorry for your loss Grant and Tracey...you can reach out anytime you like. - Posted by: Tricia Carpenter (Chmilowsky) (Niece) on: Nov 27, 2025

  • So sorry to hear of Johns passing. Seems like only yesterday that the Fraserwood pub was a home away from home on the weekends. So many good memories. John was such a good natured soul and always had a smile, making you feel like family. You did too Anna. My deepest sympathy to you and the family and know he will be remembered and missed by many. - Posted by: Sandy Shoeski (Friend) on: Oct 31, 2019
