STELLA HRYCYK
(nee DEHOD)
January 28, 1917 - January 5, 2020
Stella was predeceased by her husband of 59 years William; her parents, Wasyl and Caroline; her brothers, Micky, Walter, Frank, Jim; and her sisters, Mary, Olga, and Lilly.
Stella is survived by her son Eric (Linda), her daughter Catherine, her granddaughter Breanne, and her grandson Adam.
Mom was born and raised with her seven siblings in the north end of Winnipeg. On May 20, 1944 she married William Hrycyk and together they raised their children. The extended families remained close for many years with Christmas dinners growing exponentially and the highlight of the year for everyone.
Mom worked for many years at Eaton's, first in the Mail Order and then became a fixture in the wool department of the main store. She always had a garden and was an avid knitter, everyone in the family has one of her afghans. She loved spending time at the cottage in Echo Bay and she baked the best darned chocolate chip and oatmeal-date cookies. She took great joy in being called "nanny" by her grandchildren, and letting them win foot races in the backyard.
A few years after dad passed away, mom moved into an apartment where she lived happily, and made friends with everyone in the complex. She was fiercely independent and offers of help were usually met with a quote we have all come to know very well "I can manage".
Stella resided at the Riverview Health Centre for the past two years and the family would like to thank the staff of 4D who embraced her with love, care and compassion.
The family will have a small private ceremony to honour her life at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

Dear Eric, Linda and family, We had the pleasure of meeting your Mom and Nanny at the cottage and playing cards together. A life well lived. She was a lovely spry person and it is heartwarming the love, affection and support you shared especially during her latter years. Thinking of you during this difficult and sad time. Heartfelt sympathy Love Joan and Ray - Posted by: Joan Pullen (Friend) on: Jan 13, 2020
