JAMES (JIM) CAMERON PHELPS
November 27, 1935 – January 28, 2020

With heavy hearts we are sad to announce the passing of James (Jim) Phelps. Beloved husband (Stella); father (Sandra/Rob); grandfather (Madison/Adam); uncle (Randy) and friend.
Jim left us on January 28, 2020 at the age of 84 years. He lived with Pancreatic Cancer for 19 months and a broken heart, following the loss of his wife Stella on January 30, 2016.
Jim's greatest pride in life were his grandchildren, Madison and Adam McGarva. His love, energy, humour and humanity will be missed by his family; Sandra and Rob McGarva, Madison McGarva, Adam McGarva, Randy Sheldon, James and Linda Cohen, Laurie and Gene Poluha, Patricia McGarva and many friends. To Jim, a friend was family. He was predeceased by his sister Gloria; brother-in-law Bob and niece Joanne.
Jim's passion for life was infectious. He loved and openly embraced family and friends. His passions included sharing stories, bonfires, hunting, fishing, sunsets, summers at the beach, winters in Phoenix, great food and spirits and of course Tennis, Tennis and Tennis. To Jim, all people were friends. All ladies, "Sweetie, Honey or Darling" and men "Buddy."
We are comforted that Jim is with Stella. We are honoured by and embrace the example he set.
A private family interment has taken place. Invitations will be extended for a Celebration of Life at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of your choice is appreciated.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Bill & Jim met in the late ‘30’s and became best friends for a lifetime. Along came Yvette & Stella and an awesome couple pact was born... parties, dancing, beach buddies, adventures! Everything was together. Oh how we miss Stella and now Jim but so happy they r reunited with God and having laughs & fun together. Our children were theirs, and Sandra will always be one of ours. We love you, Rest In Peace and serenity : we will “ talk” often. - Posted by: Bill & Yvette Smith (Family) on: Feb 09, 2020

  • I was “honey” (one of many lol) with Uncle Jim. Having known him & Auntie Stella my entire life; for My mum & Dad were best friends and neighbors for 40+ years at Twin Beaches, MB off Hwy 6 ❣️He was a genuinely HAPPY VIVACIOUS man, always laughing & smiling. He was a BBQ KING 👑. Uncle Jim and my Dad Bill in charge of the BBQ spit and Corn Roasts held annually at the Beach for all our neighbors. And of course a Tennis tourney for all to watch/participate in: Uncle Jim had a FAB court built between our properties at the Beach and Dad built the seats. So many bonfires, parties, dancing, martinis, real love and life shared with all of us. Still remember the ‘infamous’ Garbage Bonfire whereupon a spray can of paint exploded and we were all covered green for a few days 😂. UncLe Jim & Auntie were so proud of their daughter Sandra and loved her with all their might. I don’t believe my 4 siblings and I shall ever forget Jim’s contribution to our lives for his positivity and care from Both he and Auntie Stella. Hardly a memory growing up exists without them. I shall miss him; but I know he’s there when I want to say “ what’s ready for the grill tonite”? He’s free of pain and reunited with Auntie, young again, and playing a match with angels watching. - Posted by: Lorna Smith (Family) on: Feb 09, 2020

  • We still live in Greenfield Resort and knew Jim and Stella for over 20 years. We played tennis together and had a happy hour with them almost every afternoon after the games. We really missed them when they left and they left a big hole in the following years. - Posted by: Dale Snell (Friend and tennis partner for many years) on: Feb 08, 2020

  • I wanted to express my heart felt sympathy to Sandra and her family. We were neighbours on Strathcona and at Twin Beaches. I have lonely memories of your dad playing pool in his rec room and sitting in a lawn chair with a cigar and martini in each hand watching the sunset. He was always the epitome of coolness to me and no matter how late the party went your dad would be up the next day for a run and game of tennis. I can only imagine how hard it was for him to lose your mom. They were such an amazing couple. I also lost my dad to pancreatic cancer and I know what a painful disease this is to endure. May he rest in peace with your mom. ❤ May you find comfort in your memories and knowing his love for you is always present.
