THOMAS ERNEST NASH
April 2, 1917 - April 28,
2020

It is with the deepest sympathy the family announces the passing of Thomas Ernest Nash, in his 103rd year, in the early morning at the Deer Lodge Centre, Portage Avenue.
He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Kathleen Annie Nash (nee Smith) of Brighton, England, youngest son Bruce Herbert Nash, and daughter-in-law Trudy.
He grew up in St. James the third of four children. In his later years he lived in Aspen Park in Gimli. He joined the Canadian militia and then went active service on the outbreak of the Second World War. He was a proud member of the 12th Manitoba Dragoons, an armoured car unit with the 2nd Canadian Army, and was discharged a Sargent. He worked for the dairy for a time. He became a Winnipeg Transit driver and retired after 27 and a half years. He lived a full and active life until the last two years.
The last month of his life was hard on him as he could not have visitors due to Covid-19 which left him isolated in the Deer Lodge Care Centre from family. We would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and all who where involved in Dad's care on T-6 and lastly on T-4. And a special thank you to 17 Wing of the R.C.A.F. and Veterans Association for their visits and time.
Dad, you are now pain free and from the deepest reaches of our hearts we love you, daughter Kathleen (Lewis Kunzler), Brian (son, whom DAD relied immensely and we all thank you), son Donald of Edmonton, son Barry (Cheryl), son Doug (Mickey), and all the 19 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren.

  • Grandpa you taught me to be strong and brave and to not let anything bother me. You always made me laugh... I know you are in heaven looking down on us smiling. Grandpa I wanted to sing "Grandpa" by the Judds at your bedside... I love you Grandpa xo Grandpa, tell me 'bout the good old days Sometimes it feels like this world's gone crazy And Grandpa, take me back to yesterday When the line between right and wrong Didn't seem so hazy Did lovers really fall in love to stay And stand beside each other, come what may? Was a promise really something people kept Not just something they would say and then forget Did families really bow their heads to pray Did daddies really never go away? Oh, Grandpa, tell me 'bout the good old days Grandpa, everything is changing fast We call it progress, but I just don't know And Grandpa, let's wander back into the past And paint me the picture of long ago Did lovers really fall in love to stay And stand beside each other, come what may? Was a promise really something people kept Not just something they would say and then forget Did families really bow their heads to pray Did daddies really never go away? Oh, Grandpa, tell me 'bout the good old days Oh, Grandpa, tell me 'bout the good old days - Posted by: Donna Mckay (Granddaughter ) on: Jun 08, 2020

  • My Sympathy to Tommys family. I used to live next to Tommys sisters,Bea and Winnie. They spoke of their brother Tommy with much love. I later met Tommy in Gimli and knew him right away as he looked like his sister Winnie. R.I.P. Tommy. - Posted by: Tamara Wetherall (Tommys sisters neighbours. ) on: May 05, 2020

  • We met Tom when he was a patient at our local hospital and learned he had been in the 12th Manitoba Dragoons with our father and grandfather, William (Bill) Poole. Tom was a fund of information about the war and his army buddies. It made our Dad and Grandpa come alive again. After Tom went home to Gimli, Janice kept in touch and Tom came to visit us. We had a delightful afternoon looking at old pictures, having lunch and lots of laughs. Tom was like family. Our condolences to his family and friends. He was a unique and wonderful man. - Posted by: Rae Poole Reid, Janice Baryliuk and Shannon and Shauna Poole (Friends) on: May 02, 2020
