Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLOUIS WILLIAM LUDLAM
Louis William Ludlam passed away peacefully on May 29, 2020, at St. Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Louis was born at home on September 7, 1940, in Reston, Manitoba. The only child of Maurice and Mary Ludlam, he grew up in Reston surrounded by a close-knit family that also included several uncles, aunts and cousins. Louis attended school in Reston and played goaltender for the town's youth hockey team.
After high school, Louis began a career in broadcast television. At 19, Louis started with CKOS in Yorkton, and then moved on to CKX in Brandon for seven years. He met Christina Enevoldsen, a MTS telephone operator, originally from Alameda, Saskatchewan, at a social event in Souris, Manitoba. They married and together raised a daughter and son. In May, they celebrated 56 years of marriage.
In 1966, the family moved to Winnipeg and Louis joined the CBC, where he spent a total of 29 years as a technician, primarily in VTR and as part of the CBC Winnipeg Mobile crew. He worked on local productions as well as many national and international sporting events, including the Olympics in Los Angeles, Seoul, and Calgary. He always brought back interesting stories and souvenirs from the places he had visited.
Following his retirement from the CBC, Louis pursued his hobbies, including photography, radio, gardening, woodworking, and genealogy. He spent many hours piecing together his family tree back to the 1700s. He always enjoyed helping out his children on their home projects. Louis and Christina enjoyed travelling to visit family and friends in Western Canada, the US, Denmark, and England, where they maintained close family connections.
Louis lived with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) for the past several years, lovingly cared for at home by his wife. As long as he could, he attended weekly coffee meetings and CBC pensioner banquets, where he enjoyed reminiscing with other retirees.
Louis was happiest spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife Christina, children, Maxine (Allen), Allen (Natalie), and five granddaughters, Kirstin, Kira, Kimberly, Astrid and Sarah. He will also be remembered by extended family and friends.
The family wishes to thank the home care and healthcare providers who supported Louis during his illness.
Cremation has taken place. A private memorial service and burial are being planned.

I had the pleasure of working with Louie on the mobile for many years, he was a great worker and always ready to help anyone who needed it. We teased him a lot about his love for donuts and Chris’s lovely cinnamon buns, but as I say you only tease the people you love, Louie got a lot of teasing. - Posted by: Moe Bilous (Colleague ) on: Jun 13, 2020

I'm lost for words. Lou on Blue. A fellow vtr op, a buddy, a mentor. Stories. Fun times while working on the truck & the 4th flr. Teasing Louie bout donuts. Good times they were. He spoke often & lovingly about his family & Reston. I've never been to Reston but I certainly feel like I have. Louie was definitely the most famous person from Reston @ The CBC. Louie was loved by all who met him. A gentle soul. A Gentleman. He will be missed by many. Thank You Louie, for everything that you helped me with & taught me. - Posted by: Rob Carlson (CBC VTR Op) on: Jun 07, 2020

Lou was one of the good guys at CBC. Competent and good-natured, working with him was always a pleasure. And when I first started working at CBC, I cannot count how many times he "saved" me from disastrous errors, and he did this quietly and modestly, teaching me how things should be done.....but with humour and respect. I wish he were alive so that I could thank him. My deepest sympathy to his family and friends. Ms Frankie Glickman Victoria BC - Posted by: Ms Frankie Glickman (CBC colleague) on: Jun 06, 2020
