EDITH ZEKE
May 14, 1948 - May 30, 2020
Edith was predeceased by her beloved husband Gary in 1991 and recently by brother-in-law Murray Halldorson. Left to cherish her memory are common-law husband Peter Barenz (27 years); sons, Dale and Darren; grandchildren, Jennifer and Dylan; Peter's sons, Scott (Leanne), Dayton and Lance; stepgrandchildren; sister Lillian Halldorson; sister Wendy (Dave) Urban; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, loyal friends, and so many people whose lives were touched by her kind heart and fun spirit.
Edith was born in Eriksdale, MB and raised in Lundar, MB. She was devoted to her family and the house was always filled with warmth, love and laughter. Edith's infectious laugh will never be forgotten, and we will miss hearing that throughout our days.
Music was an integral part of the Zeke family. When Gary and the boys played, it was magical, and Edith loved to dance. Whether it was Dale singing or country music playing, she could always be found on the dance floor or even a tabletop. Time with family and friends was one of her greatest pleasures and visits would always include her wonderful cooking and baking.
She loved curling, golfing, watching hockey, and any activity her grandchildren were involved with, travelling and gardening. Her yard resembles a park. Many years were spent at TarryAll Resort in Ontario with both her sisters on each side of her place. Edith and Peter spent their winters down in Mesa, AZ where they met many lifelong friends. Their summer was spent between Headingley and Lundar and her presence will be deeply missed by all her friends and family.
A private graveside service for immediate family will be held at a later date.

I worked in the traffic department at Motorways and one of the best parts of the day were the coffee and lunch breaks where Edith's infectious and raucous sense of humor made all of us laugh - she was always so kind and funny and all of us loved to listen to her talk about her antics on her boat and listen to some of her hilarious jokes - she used to tease me all the time about my ketchup addiction since I put ketchup on everything - Motorways was my first professional job and she was one of the best memories of working there - DC - Posted by: Don Clark (Friend/co-worker) on: May 25, 2022

Dear Lillian, Wendy and families: When I think about the tragic loss that we have suffered, I am comforted by memories of a beautiful and vibrant woman who left us way too soon. I remember the Edith of our youth, so tiny that she earned the nickname “Sparrow”. I remember the Edith of our youth growing up in Lundar where every day was an adventure. Never one to be confined by the rules. Edith invented her own words. Dessert became “dersenert” and spaghetti became “skabetti”. I remember all the trips to the lake riding in the back of her mother’s blue International truck, I also remember a trip to Oak Point with all of us kids crammed into the back seat of my mother’s old Buick nicknamed the “Paint Job”. When we got to the Clarkleigh curve, we ran out of gas. We kids hiked around the Clarkleigh curve and surprised the owner of the store. We will cherish all of our memories of Edith including her zest for life, her positive outlook, and her boundless energy. May these memories comfort you. - Posted by: Lloyd Paulson (Friend) on: Sep 01, 2020

Edith and I worked together at Motorways. I will always remember how she welcomed me to the company with open arms when I first started there and she kept me under her wing from that first day forward. She had a great sense of humor, a big kind heart, and an open mind ahead of her time. She will never be forgotten. - Posted by: Tammy Stark (co-worker) on: Jun 06, 2020
