STEVE KIES

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Steve Kies on July 14, 2020, at Actionmarguarite St. Joseph, at the age of 95 years.
Born on December 24, 1924, Dad spent his childhood on the family farm in Sarto, Manitoba. At the age of 17, Dad and his eight siblings lost their father due to heart failure. With only their mother to depend on and being the oldest son of four boys and five girls, Dad stayed on at home to help his mother. At age 21, he fell in love with Adele. They married and raised three children, Judy, Jerry and Ted.
Dad worked 35 dedicated years as a lead hand at Varta Batteries. He could build or repair almost anything and taught himself electrical wiring. Dad learned to play the violin without notes and played at Ukrainian weddings. His friendly nature and joking were a big part of his life.
Our father leaves to mourn three children, five grandchildren and their spouses; four great-grandchildren, and one sister Victoria. Dad was predeceased by Mom in 2010, married 62 years.
Thank you to the staff at St. Joseph for your helping hands and loving hearts in caring for our father.
A private family interment shall occur at a later date.
