• I just found out about Andre’s passing. I often tell my family about the times I spent as a dishwasher and kitchen hand at Chez Andre in Winnipeg. I was a fresh university student and learned many life lessons in Andre’s kitchen. I spent two years there and cannot count the wonderful times spent with Andre, his wife, and the rest of the crew. • Pardonez-moi mon anglaise mais I only heard of Andre's passing today when a friend from University days emailed me about Andre's passing. I first met Chef Andre in The 1970s in Winnipeg when he operated "Chez Andre's" near the corner of Portage Avenue & Main St. The evening's that I shared with friends are etched in my mind as if it were only yesterday. I even recall 3 occasions where the meals were so fantastic that I recall those who shared those fabulous meals created by Andre...Harold Hyde (and his fiancée at the time) of North Vancouver one time, Barry McNish (and Maggie, his wife still today) of Victoria B.C. One time & a Winnipeg waiter, maitre'd & fine dining connausseure Allan Wall (and his wife Sabina), Today with CV19 having us "social distance"& wearing masks, et. al , Chez Andre's seems like it was a dream. Andre's coquille St.Jaques was cooked to perfection & I still can taste his crepes Suzette's melting in my mouth! But more than the quality of the food preparation was the friendliness and esprit de core that emanated from Andre. A fine chef, a wonderful gentleman who has been missed all these years since he left Winnipeg. Au revoire Andre, and to the family and loved ones of Andre Brunel, on behalf of all of us across Canada, may I say how sorry we all are to hear of your loss. - Posted by: H. • Mon cher tonton Oui.... meme si on se voyait peu a cause de la distance....tu vas me manquer.!!...nous avions un peu le meme caractere ...franc...et tu aimer comme moi dire ce que les autres pensent tout bas!!!....ça derange certains....
