ALAN PETER CHERNEY
November 4, 1958 - September 18, 2020
He was born and raised in Winnipeg; the son of Nicholas and Mary Cherney. Al and his siblings spent many weekends through the years at their grandmother's farm in Birds Hill, Manitoba with extended family. He spent a lot of time fishing at Lockport, Arnes, and many other locations during his time in Manitoba. He always enjoyed being active and was a tremendous cross country runner in high school. Al had a long career in the transportation industry; beginning with Canpar, a division of CP Express in Winnipeg, until his move with his family to Saskatoon in 1992 where he worked for Trans Western; which later became Vitran. He began working at SaskTel Centre as a second job and hobby in 2012. Over the years Saskatoon became home to Al; where he made many great friends and memories.
Al was an amazing father to Nicholas, Colin, and their wives, as well as a very proud grandfather to Eleanor. He was a loving and devoted partner to Alexis and their cats. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Al was predeceased by his father in 1983, his mother in 2003 and his ex-wife and mother of his boys, Wendy, in 2017. He will be forever remembered and missed by his partner Alexis, his children, Nick (Jasmyne and their daughter Eleanor) and Colin (Kim), siblings, John (Patti and their daughter Dayna), Stephen (Lisa and their sons, Scott (Brooke) and Mike), Cathy (her daughter Laura), Alexis' parents, Daryl and Kim, brother Matt (Kayla and their son Bodhi). Bodhi adored Al and will miss playing with him. Also missing Al are many extended family and close friends.
His time spent fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, playing cards and socializing with friends and family will never be forgotten and will never be the same without him. Al loved spending time outside with his cats and they will be lost without him.
As per Al's wishes there will not be a service. A private gathering will be held. The interment will take place at a later date at Avondale Woodlawn Cemetery.
Donations in Al's memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, the SPCA or any charity of your choice.

My condolences to all the Cherney family. Allan and I were neighbours and since we were almost the same age, we went to school together. As children we all had fond memories from living on Landsdowne street together. Last saw Allan when he came to visit his mother and we had time to reminisce. He was a great guy and was always happy and genuine. May you rest peacefully. - Posted by: Martha Shepertycky (Neighbour from Landsdowne ) on: Sep 22, 2020
