McDONALD: Eldon Armstrong McDonald of Carberry passed away April 22, 2010 at the Personal Care Home in Carberry at the age of 91 years. Eldon was born in the Brookdale district. He married Hilda Mikkelsen in 1940 and served in the Canadian Army for a short time. Then, in the remaining war years, he worked for Winnipeg Electric. Hilda and Eldon returned to the Brookdale district in 1946 where they farmed for 50 years, working with animals, especially dairy cattle and horses, and growing grain. During those years, Eldon served his community in various civic capacities including, among others, as a member of the Carberry Hospital Board and as a Brookdale School Trustee. Music, dancing (especially square dancing), listening to tapes and CD’s, and visiting with family and friends were life-long pleasures. He and Hilda retired from farming in 1995 and moved to Carberry. Eldon was predeceased by his parents, Will and Stella McDonald, his brother Stewart and wife Ruth, his sister Bernice East and husband Laurie, and his daughter Lorna (Brian Plumb). In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sister Joyce (Clare Cawston) of Virden, daughter Carole Reilly and her children, Chris, Sandie and Jay, daughter Lonnie (Alex Whitmore), and their children Arlene, Karli and Erika, son Connor (Bonnie Steven) and his children, Diana, Devin, Tara, Kelli, Steven, and Daniel, and Lorna and Brian’s children, David and Faye. There are 11 great-grandchildren. A family graveside service was held April 27, 2010 at Rosewood Memorial Gardens with Rev. Peggy Reid officiating. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Carberry Personal Care Home for their years of kind and attentive care.
