JOHNSON: Ellen Ingeborg Johnson age 92 years of Victoria, B.C., (formerly from Minnedosa, and then Brandon, Manitoba) passed away peacefully with her son by her side on April 12 th, 2010. Ellen had been a resident at The Cridge Centre for the Family, in Victoria for the past 2 1Ž2 years. Left to mourn her passing are son and daughter-in-law Dennis and Stacy Johnson, Victoria, grandchildren Stephanie Johnson, Kamloops BC and Cameron Johnson, Victoria, brother Roy Nelson of Mesa Arizona, sister in-law Mabel Martin (Nelson), Gresham, OR and many nieces and nephews. Ellen was born on August 7th, 1917 to Gustav and Anna Marie Nelson in Erickson, Manitoba. The family soon thereafter moved to the homestead farm 7 miles southeast of Minnedosa, were Ellen grew up and took her schooling. On October 17 th, 1933 Ellen and Gustav Johnson were married in Winnipeg then in 1945 Dennis was adopted becoming part of the family. Gus and Ellen farmed on two separate quarter sections of land very near to where Ellen grew up as a child, then in 1958 moved into the town of Minnedosa. There Ellen and Gus worked at various jobs until 1964 when they became the keepers of the Minnedosa Lake Campgrounds. In 1976, after moving to Brandon, Ellen was one of the head cooks at the Fairview Home until retiring in 1982. In 1994 Ellen moved to Victoria, B.C. to be near her son Dennis and family. Ellen was predeceased by husband Gustav in 1988, sister in-law Connie Nelson, and brothers and sisters Olga Nelson, Alma Walton (Bill), William (Bill) Nelson (Alma), Theodore (Ted) Nelson, Mildred Walton (Jim), Gideon (Jiggs) Nelson (Dorothy), Ebba Barnes (Les), and Hjalmar Nelson (Betty). Ellen enjoyed baking, sewing, tatting, crocheting, crafts, and she was a very good sketch artist, which she kept mostly to herself. Her family and her many friends meant the world to her as she cared a lot for them all. She was always there for them whenever they needed her. Ellen always gave of herself, a caring person who will be sadly missed by her family and friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Donna Doyle, the staff at the Cridge Seniors’ Centre, and also the care givers from Beacon Community Services who gave Mother excellent care over the years, and especially these past few weeks. Thanks to all of you from the bottom of our hearts. Internment: Smoland Cemetery, Minnedosa, Manitoba. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at the Minnedosa Funeral Services, on Saturday, May 15th, 2010. Flowers gratefully declined.
