ADDISON: James Keith of Brandon passed away peacefully in the Assiniboine Centre on April 26, 2010 with his loving wife Kay at his side. He will be sadly missed by his children; Mark (Kellie) of Brandon, Shaun (Sara Idnurm) of Calgary and Susan (Joe) Wright of Rapid City and his five grandchildren: Tyler, Haillee, Jayden, Katie and Jessica. He also leaves his sisters; Betty (Elmer) Mott and Doreen Dickson and father-in-law Harold Manns all of Carberry. Keith was born on May 1, 1939 in Carberry, the youngest of eight children of James and Maggie Addison. He attended Pleasant Point and Carberry schools. At the age of 17 and weighing 97 lbs., he started to work for Quinn Construction. In 1962, Keith took a Refrigeration Technology course at Red River Community College and started working for Prairie Refrigeration the following year. In 1960 Keith went to a Carberry bonspiel with his friend Ron - just to check out Ron's cousins - the rest is history as there he met Kay. Keith and Kay were married in August 1965 and would have celebrated 45 years of marriage this summer. In 1970, Kay and Keith started Kay's Stretch Sewing Center, a fabric and sewing store which they owned for about 10 years. In 1988, Keith took over Prairie Refrigeration until his retirement in 2005. Keith really enjoyed this vocation that lasted nearly 40 years. He loved the friendships he formed with his customers over the years. Throughout the years, Keith enjoyed attending dances, Wheat King games, camping, going on holidays and his beloved miniature horses. His grandchildren were very special to him - his pride and joy. He enjoyed their sports events and teaching them how to show and drive his little horses. Kay and Keith moved to their acreage in 1983, where he took pride in his garden and yard and especially the new foals each year. He looked forward to the many BBQ's they hosted each year. Keith was predeceased by his parents James and Maggie Addison, brothers; Ken, Ron, and Chuck, sisters Lylia Carmichael, Thelma Mack and mother-in-law Matilda Manns. The Funeral service was held on Friday April 30 at St. George's Anglican Church with Rev. Jim Brown and Rev. Chris Arthur officiating. Pallbearers were nephews; Gregory Lewis, Michael Lewis, Tom Addison, Don Dickson, Bill Dickson, and Mitchell Mott. Interment was held at Carberry Plains Cemetery with piper Brent Graham playing Amazing Grace. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Keith to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation for Cancer Care Facility, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 2B3. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com. Arrangements were with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
