GRAY:George Russell. Peacefully on August 27th, 2010, George Russell Gray passed away at the Calvary Place Personal Care Home at the age of 93 years. He is survived by his brother Alden, his sister Evelyn Osborne (Art), their children Ed and Ellen and their families, and his devoted niece Karen DiUbaldo and her children Chris and Mark. George was predeceased by his parents Ed and Mary Ellen Gray, his sister Eileen Montgomery and brother Henry Gray. George was born on September 29, 1916 at Bradwardine Manitoba. In 1936 the family moved to a farm in the Ryerson District north of Oak Lake. He farmed with his brothers until retirement in 1991 when they moved to Winnipeg. He was a kind, easy going and gentle man. He was a member of the Home Defense Unit in the Canadian Army during WW II. George and his brothers worked well together, each with their own responsibilities on their mixed farming operation. In Winnipeg they continued this division of labour often impressing their neighbours with their teamwork and efficiency. They could be counted on to help their neighbours with yard work and repair issues. George with his brothers enjoyed attending his great nephews sporting events such as hockey and soccer games. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Calvary Place Personal Care Home for their excellent care and kindness shown to George. Also thanks is extended to Ferd for his support and assistance over the years. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, September 2nd at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Scott MacAuley officiating. Interment will follow in: Rosewood Memorial Gardens, Brandon Manitoba. As an expression of sympathy, if friends so desire, donations in Georges memory may be made to the Oak Lake Museum Fund in Care of Clare Couling or a charity of their choice.
