HUNT: It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Olive May Hunt (Brown). Mom left us peacefully at her residence in Birch Personal Care Home on Monday, March 12/2012 with family by her side. She was the eldest daughter born to Chris and Alma Brown on November 14, 1919 in Oakner, MB. Mom was raised along side her 7 siblings on the home farm by Oakner. She had to quit school at the age of 15 after her father had taken ill. Being the oldest she was needed to help run the family farm until her younger brother Gordon was old enough to take over. Mom worked for several families in the Kenton and Oakner area and even spent some time in Winnipeg. From caring for children, housekeeping and helping during harvest she helped out and found work wherever she could. She married our father, Stanley Hunt, on April 18th, 1942 at Kenton. They farmed for five years. Then in 1947, they moved into Kenton where they lived above the café until they moved the Kinsmore School into town and remodeled it for their home where they lived for the next 45 years. Mom and Dad had 6 children. Mom spent much of her time raising her family and keeping boarders. She enjoyed curling, was a part of the Pythian Sisters, UCW, and the Kenton Leisure Club. She was a 4-H sewing leader for 5 years and helped out with the different sporting organizations that her children were involved in. She loved gardening, which led her to work for Stan and Ellen Gould in their greenhouse for a few years and then at Iveys Greenhouse in Virden for a couple more years. In February of 1992, Mom and Dad moved to Lilac Residence in Hamiota. In April of that year they celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary then in July of 1992 our father passed away. After Dads passing Mom remained in Lilac where she helped deliver mail, enjoyed playing cards and bingo, participated in the Buddy Program with Grade 3 students from the Hamiota School and volunteered at the hospital Diabetic Clinic. In August, 2009 Mom moved into Birch Personal Care Home. The Doctors and staff at Birch took very good care of Mom. They always said she was a gem to look after. Never complaining and always had a sense of humor right up to the end. She was predeceased by her husband Stan, infant daughter Beverly, parents Chris and Alma Brown, brothers Reginald and Jim Brown, sister Flora Brown, sister-in-law Noreen Brown and bother-in-law Dooley Dryden. She is survived by her children and their spouses - Richard, Ken (Barb), Chris (Elaine), Charlene Schafer (Bill), Gwenda Skayman (Kelvin Tiller) her 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren and by her brothers Gordon (Mary), Cecil, Wilf (Georgina) and sister Lottie Dryden, as well as brother-in-law Roy Brown, sister-in-law Donna Brown and by the surviving Hunt family members. Her sense of humor and laughter never left her. She taught us all life lessons and filled our lives with happiness. She lived a long and happy life, full of family and friends. Mom, you are loved, you are greatly missed and will be forever in our hearts. A celebration of Moms life was held at Hamiota United Church on Monday, March 19, 2012 conducted by Rev. Rachel Robinson. The interment took place at Hamiota Cemetery prior to the service. Donations in Moms memory can be made to: Birch Personal Care Home, Hamiota, Manitoba, R0M 0T0. Funeral arrangements were with Campbell Funeral Home in Hamiota.
