HAINSWORTH: Bruce George passed peacefully on March 28, 2012 at the age of 85 years. Bruce was born in Deloraine, MB on August 17, 1926 and lived in the Deloraine area all his life. He received his education at Grove and Falconer Collegiate Schools. Bruce worked on the family farm with his father until he was employed by the RM of Winchester in 1949 as a grader operator. After one year, Bruce had worked with and operated all of the equipment they had. In 1959 he became a working foreman and maintained that position until 1991 when he retired. On April 22, 1949 he married Hazel Doreen Dobson from Killarney and they lived in a renovated railway car until June 1958 when they moved their family of four to 516 Morton Ave, in the west end of town. In 1986 Bruce and Hazel moved to 212 Mountain Street, and Bruce resided there until 2012. Bruce was pre-deceased by his parents William and Hazel Sr. and more recently his wife, Hazel, in 2008. He is survived by 2 brothers, Roy (Merla) and Ross (Dorothy); children, Karen (Larry Macialek), Pat McKay (Ray McGillivray), Brenda (Francis Parker), Steven (Kristie), 11 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.During his life he was actively involved in a wide variety of community organizations including Royal Canadian Order of Forresters, Akela, for the local Cub Pack (40+ years), Ambulance Service (51+ years) and Deloraine Volunteer Fire Department (50+ years). After his retirement Bruce became an active member and board member on the Deloraine Golf Course and at the Mountview Centre. Bruce enjoyed playing pool, cards, and loved driving the country side. He spent a few years with the seniors curling club and worked out at the fitness centre until it closed. Bruce was very involved in the Seniors Outreach Service driving seniors to appointments, etc and delivering Meals on Wheels for a number years. He programmed, taped and interviewed for the local Westman Communications Access TV station for 19 years until he was unable to continue due to illness. Bruce was always available and willing to help anyone. He will be greatly missed by his family and the community. A Celebration of His Life was held on March 31, 2012 at the Deloraine United Church with a reception at the Mountview Centre. Bruce was determined to remain living on his own, and was able to do so with the assistance from various local organizations. Donations can be made to the Senior Outreach Service in Deloraine.
