COCHRANE: (1918 – 2013) Dad was born Arthur Ernest Cochrane in Elgin District on November 26, 1918 and died in his 94th year on July 8, 2013. He was predeceased by his wife Maim Cochrane (Cassils) on December 9, 2007; and is survived by daughters Vonda (Gary Cranswick) and Marleen (Kent Church); granddaughters Kelly Cranswick (Russell Burton) and Jodi Cranswick (Bruce Bowie); step grandchildren Robert Church and Corin Jorgenson; great grandchildren Sophie and Jack Burton and Eric and Cori Jorgenson. Also survived by brothers Lloyd and Ossie and sister Donalda Neufeld. He was predeceased by brothers William, Eldon and Ken and sisters Norma Davis and Marjorie Murphy. Dad enlisted in the Air Force in 1942 and was posted to No. 12 Airport, north of Brandon until his discharge in January 1946. After the war Dad and Mom moved from Brandon to Elgin where they farmed for one year before purchasing a Grocery Store in Elgin. They sold the store in 1957 when Dad started his career with Manitoba Pool Elevators where he worked as a grain buyer in Moore Park and Boissevain and a District Manager in Morden, Virden and Brandon. He retired in 1983. After retiring, Dad and Mom travelled to many locations and spent many winters in Edinburg, Texas. During the summers Dad loved to golf and even got a hole in one on the 3rd hole at Glen Lea Golf Course. He spent many falls hauling grain for his son-in-law Gary. For the past five years Dad resided at Victoria Landing where he participated in many activities and outings and loved his evening card games. He also enjoyed watching Blue Jay baseball and curling. Our Dad was a man of few words who valued honesty and integrity in all. He was the true definition of a family man, putting his family first in everything he did. Private interment will take place at a later date at Elgin Cemetery. If so desired, donations in memory of Art may be made to Elgin Cemetery, c/o P.O. Box 53, Minto, MB, R0K 1M0.
