PENNO: It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ada Olive Penno at the age of 88, at the Brandon General Health Centre, Palliative Care Unit on July 19, 2013. Ada will be missed by all who knew her for her sense of humour, quick smile and gentle manner. She was born on October 21, 1924, at Pipestone, Manitoba, the youngest of 6 children to Olive and William Elliott. She enjoyed farm life, riding her horse and the company of good life long friends. She attended Belses and Pipestone schools. She moved to Winnipeg in 1942 and attended Dominion Business College. She married Stanley Kennedy March 11, 1950 and during this marriage lived in Winnipeg and McCreary. Ada moved back to Pipestone in 1964. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the United Church Women. She married Arthur Penno on January 25, 1969. Ada and Art moved from the farm to Melita in 1976. She was an active member of the Rebekah Lodge. They enjoyed their retirement at the cabin they built at Oak Lake and here you could find them fishing or playing cards with their good friends. Ada moved back to Brandon in February, 2010 and resided at Victoria Landing until her passing. Ada is lovingly remembered by her daughter Wilma (Bob) Nevill, sons Blaine and Bill Kennedy, step-daughter Lois (Ron) Paul, step-sons Howard (Marlene) and Gerald (Bev) Penno, sisters-in-law, Linda, Olive and Ida Elliott, daughter-in-law Shelley (Roger) Walker and Jodene, her beloved grandchildren Rhett (Stacy) Nevill and Cory Nevill, Candace (Jeff) Henderson, Nicholette (Jimmy) Claire, Zachary, Kennedy, Shannon (Mark) Jost, Tammie (Jerod) Riddell, Tanya (Scott) Robertson, Irwin Paul, Rhonda (Shayne) Thomson, Kendra, Kelsey and Blair Penno, 13 great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. Ada was predeceased by her parents, husband Art, sister Laurie (Nick) Dodds, brothers Doug, Bert, Russell and Jack Elliott, brother-in-law Walter (Jean) Penno, sisters-in-law Heddie (Doug) Turnbull, Eda (Hollis) Raymond and Herta Kolke. A service to honour Ada's life was held on July 25, 2013 at the Victoria United Church in Relita, MB with Rev. Rob Reed officiating. Eulogy was given by granddaughters Tammie Riddell and Tanya Robertson, which included a letter written by granddaughter Shannon Paul-Jost. A Memory book of Ada's life made by granddaughter Candy Henderson was on display at the lunch after the service. Active pallbearers were her nephews Bob, Wayne, Graham, Bill, Larrie and Barrie Elliott. Interment took place at Melita Cemetery. Donations in memory of Ada, may be made to Brandon Regional Health Centre, Palliative Care Unit, 150 McTavish Ave. East, Brandon, MB R7A 2B3 or to a charity of one's choice.
