EMPEY: Phyllis Audrey Empey (nee Clark) passed away peacefully on Monday, July 14, 2014 at the Boissevain Health Centre. Phyllis was born Dec. 31, 1934 in Grandview, Manitoba to Fred and Sarah Clark. She had 5 brothers, Milt, Cliff, Bruce, Gerald and Gilbert and 2 sisters, Gladys and Hazel. She is survived by Gerald (Verla) and Hazel and in-laws Willard and Laura Empey. She completed High school in Grandview and then did 1 year permit teaching at Pleasant Valley. She then went to Normal School to obtain her Teachers Certificate. Once complete, she accepted a position at Wapaha School. A certain local single fellow named Doug volunteered to meet the new school teacher at the bus stop in Boissevain. Not long afterwards they started dating. On August 7, 1957 they were married at Grandview. They began their married life on the farm at SW 15-4-21. They have 3 children; son Blair his children Amanda (Brandon) Doty, 2 great-grandchildren Bryson and Jade; Tannis, Brian and Sarah, daughter; Heather (Garrett) Whittleton, their children Robert, Tanya, Colin and Carly and son Mervin. Mom was a great farm partner and brought many suppers and pies to the field. Moms many hobbies included Primrose Homemakers, playing cards, bowling and golf. She made many quilts and afgans for each family member. Mom and Dad loved to travel, which included many trips across Canada in the summer and winter holidays to the southern states. In the later years many day trips were made to the casinos. Mom and Dad retired to Boissevain in 1978 to their new house. Mom was ever the teacher.
