DRIEDGER: Abram "Abe" passed away with family by his side at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Saturday, July 26, 2014. Born at Steinbach, Manitoba on July 19, 1932, he was the third of nine children to John and Elizabeth Driedger. Abe was raised in the Marquette area west of Winnipeg where he attended St. Francois Xavier, Gretna, and Allarie Schools. His career started as a power engineer at Winnipeg Hydro, working hard to obtain his first class ticket. On March 27, 1965 he married Alice Koch and they moved to Brandon in 1966 as Abe had accepted a job as chief engineer at the Brandon General Hospital. Retiring from BGH in 1981, he went to work at the Brandon Mental Health Centre until his final retirement in 1996. As a member of UCT, he enjoyed working on many projects, one being the UCT Train which is still part of the Annual Traveller's Day Parade. Abe enjoyed many sports, especially curling, baseball and hockey. An excellent carpenter, fisherman and hunter, he was also known to "cut a rug" and had an excellent dance partner with Alice. Family was his greatest joy. Abe is survived by his loving wife Alice, children Eloise (Jeff) McCulloch, Richard (Cheryl), Jennifer (Rick) Harris; grandchildren Shannon, Melissa, Rebecca, Sean, Brittney, Paige, Zachary and Megan; great-grandchildren Elijah, Eloise and Avery. The Ceremony to Celebrate Abe's Life took place at St. George's Anglican Church on Friday, August 1, 2014. Rev. Canon Jim Brown and Rev. Dr. Iain Elliott officiated. Interment followed at the Brandon Cemetery. Donations in memory of Abe may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, 8 - 940 Princess Avenue, Brandon, MB R7A 0P6.
