CAIRNS: Naomi Irene Cairns (nee Stockford). It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of our beloved Mother and Grandmother on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at the age of 93. She was born on the family farm at Altamont, MB on January 30, 1921 to Menno and Ellen Stockford. She attended Victory School, Altamont, achieving Grade 8, and then was employed in the family bakery business in Holland and Altamont. Mom enjoyed music, often singing with her brother Bill in a church choir and later with her daughters. In 1942 she decided to pursue an ad to help on a farm in Oak Lake, MB. There she met Cecil Cairns whom she later married on February 15, 1945. During their 60 years of marriage, they farmed north of Oak Lake. They were blessed with two daughters, Marilyn and Darlene, who were their pride and joy. In 1974 they retired from farming and moved to Brandon where Mom kept busy shopping, gardening and helping do childcare for three of her grandchildren. They spent many happy summers at their cabin at Manhattan Beach on Pelican Lake. Mom, was always a welcoming hostess and often served up tasty home cooked meals for family and friends. Her scones and baked treats were the best. Her garden produce and baking were often entered in the Harding and Oak Lake fairs, winning many prizes. She was a kind and loving person, respected and loved by family and friends. Naomi is survived by her daughters, Marilyn (Wayne) Phillips, Darlene (Les) Schirmacher and five wonderful grandchildren, Tracy (Dan) Masse, Jason (Sarah) Phillips, Stephanie Phillips, Brent Schirmacher, and Deanna Schirmacher; brother-in-law Raymond (Ruth) Cairns and sisters-in-law, Tena Stockford and JoAnn Cairns. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Cecil, her parents, three brothers, Lloyd (Viola), Bill (Ruby), Ford Stockford and infant sister, Marjorie, brothers-in-law, Clinton (Vera) Cairns and Earle (Helen) Cairns. Funeral service will be held at Memories Chapel and Pre-Planning Centre, Brandon on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 2:00 pm. Rev. Dennis Schram will officiate. A private interment will precede the memorial service at Johnston Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined.
