CUDNEY: Dorothy Gertrude Cudney (Gert) passed away peacefully of natural causes at Fairview Personal Care Home with her son, Robert, at her side. Gert was born at the Town of Minitonas, Manitoba, on December 23, 1919, and passed away on September 2, 2014. She was predeceased by her husband, Gordon, and her seven siblings. She is survived by her two sons, Alex (Susan) and Robert, grandchildren Tiffany (Chris), Troy, Britt (Paul), Krista, Nancy (Chad) and Andrea (David), and great -grandchildren, Drew, Tess, Tatum, Lucas, Taliesin, Madison, Abigail, Carter, Tyler and Oliver. Gert’s passion was her family and her home. She was a stay-at-home mom, a vocation that was full-time and one at which she excelled. The freezer was always filled with home- made dainties, cookies, and cakes and she could put together a meal in an instant that always included several salads, at least two pies, several choices of poultry or meat and numerous vegetables. Gert was a news hound reading two daily newspapers, a voracious reader of novels and a prolific writer of suggestions directed to the various politicians, both in Manitoba and Ottawa. Gert always took time to give the neighborhood children cookies and milk and, more importantly, a word of encouragement or comfort. She had a kind word for all, but also did not hesitate to provide a little constructive criticism, if necessary. She set a high standard for herself and expected the same from others. She missed the company of her faithful companion, a long- haired Chihuahua, Princess, who passed away several years ago. She will be sorely missed by her sons, Alex and Robert, and her long haired Chihuahua, Teddy. There will be a private family memorial service held at a later date. For what is it to die,but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun.And what is it to cease breathing, but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expandand seek God unencumbered.
