FERRIS: Robert (Bob) Charles Ferris. Bob passed away peacefully on October 31, 2016 at the Killarney Tri-Lake Health Center at the age of 76. He is survived by his wife, Joan; children Craig (Louise), Kent, and Kristin; Grandchildren, Celina, Brandon and Dwayne (Jung Boon Cha), sister Kathleen (Paul) Koteck, brother-in-law Bill (Carol Anne) Langton and many nieces and nephews. Bob was born in Wawanesa, MB on January 19, 1940. He was the third child and first son of Brig and Reta Ferris. Graduating from Wawanesa and then Brandon University with a teaching degree, Bob moved to Killarney to pursue his teaching career. He met and married Joan (Langton) in August 1966. After teaching for over 30 years, Bob retired at the young age of 54 and enjoyed over 20 years of retirement. Over the years Bob enjoyed playing and coaching hockey and football, as well as teaching his kids the love of life and the outdoors. His passions included countless hours of golf and volunteering at the golf course. As well, Bob’s family reunions in Wawanesa at the Ferris homestead, including fireworks, delighted his mom. Bob loved his many years with the “old guys" golfing, chopping wood, driving the back roads, hunting, playing pool, driving ambulance, Grey Cup gatherings with the Wawanesa crew, and his Texas golfing retreats. Bob's happiest times started in 1994 with retirement but more importantly grandchildren. Grandpa and the grandkids were like best friends. They gave him new life every time he saw them. Bob was predeceased by his Mom and Dad, sisters Dawna (Bruce) McGowan, Merle (Bill) Plohman and brother Clare (Marge) Ferris, and daughter-in-law Thithphavanh Sengmany Ferris. Bob lived his life to its fullest with his dry wit, humor and love of life. A private family gathering was held at Wawanesa Cemetery on November 2, 2016. A day to celebrate Bob’s life, including a golf tournament, will be held at Killarney Lakeside Golf course in the spring of 2017. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bob may be made to a charity of your choice.“Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened” Dr. Seuss
