FAST: Peter Fast passed away peacefully at Westview Lodge in Boissevain, Manitoba on September 21, 2019 at the age of 92. Peter was born in Winkler, Manitoba on October 30, 1926 shortly after his parents Peter and Mary immigrated from Russia. In 1936 the family moved to the Boissevain area and eventually ended up farming a half section of land a few miles north of Boissevain. Peter began farming with his brother John on a farm near Margaret. Peter took over that farm a few years later and then, when his parents retired to Boissevain in 1960 he took over the family farm north of Boissevain. He farmed that half section of land until 1994 when he retired to Boissevain. When Peter moved to town in 1994 he would join the coffee group at Wingho Restaurant for coffee weekday mornings and afternoons. At that time he formed a very close friendship with the owners of the restaurant Sam and Sun Lee along with their children Sheldon and Sherwin. The Lee's eventually sold the restaurant to Terry and Ling Choy and a very close relationship developed between Peter and the Choy's. Peter would help the Choy's around the restaurant serving coffee to the coffee crew and also with other tasks. The Choy's had three girls and he would drive them to and from school. Peter cherished the bonds that were created with both the Lee and Choy families while they resided in Boissevain. Left to cherish his memory are his sisters Minna (John Peters) of Calgary, Alberta, Anne (Tom Gamble) of Sacramento, California, and sister-in-law Erna (John Fast) of St. Catherine's, Ontario, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother John Fast, sister Tena Fast, and brothers-in-law John Peters and Tom Gamble, along with his parents Peter and Mary. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the staff at Westview Lodge in Boissevain for their dedication and care they gave to Peter over these past few years. Funeral service for Peter will be held on Thursday, September 26 at 11:00 a.m. at Whitewater Mennonite Church in Boissevain.
