JUDITH (JUDI) MAUREEN MAGREL
(nee TARASENKO)
June 15, 1946-June 8, 2020
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Judi. She passed away at home with her husband David by her side, with her sisters Bev and Jan, and David’s daughters, Darlene and Denise.
Judi and her twin sister Jan were born June 15, 1946 in Winnipeg. Her formative years were spent in Steinbach.
She took LPN training and then RN training. She went on to work in a Steinbach clinic, then at Lion’s Manor in Winnipeg working with the well elderly, training nursing staff on a new computer system, in charge of infectious disease, and then as Director of Nursing.
Judi had a special gift for working with the elderly. She said they have so much to teach us.
Judi enjoyed worldwide holidays over the years.
Once married in 1978, Judi developed wonderful cooking skills. Everybody invited to Judi’s and David’s home felt welcomed, cared for and always well fed.
Judi showed her thoughtfulness for others with her notes of cheer, thanks, congratulations, and thinking of you. Her words were heartfelt and eloquent.
Her thoughtfulness and compassion were boundless.
She enjoyed digging in the dirt to see what would grow for her. She inherited this trait from her dad. Her flowers and the backyard were beautiful. The gazebo was Judi’s happy place.
Above all else Judi treasured her family. She loved us, advocated for us, consoled us, encouraged us, and cheered for us. Judi was a perfect gift.
She will be missed beyond words.
She was predeceased by her parents, Alex and Helen Tarasenko. She is survived by her sisters, Janice and Beverly; husband David; David’s daughters, Denise Antosh (Dennis), Darlene Bromley (Tim); the grandchildren, Ryan, Dylan, Vanessa; and a great-grandchild, Alexa.
God saw you getting tired
And a cure was not to be
So He put His arms around you
And whispered “Come to me.”
With tearful eyes we watched you
As you slowly slipped away
And though we loved you dearly
We couldn’t make you stay.
Your golden heart stopped beating
Your tired hands put to rest
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.
There are things we do not want to happen, but have to accept, things we don’t want to know, but have to learn, and people we can’t live without, but have to let go.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Judi’s life will be held at a later date.
