ANDREW FUNK
Andrew Funk was born in Winnipeg, MB on Oct. 28, 1965 to Abe and Helen Funk and passed away Friday, Mar. 20, 2020 from complications of pneumonia.
Andrew was a loving brother, he loved to laugh and loved to play practical jokes on anyone who was close. Andy loved hugs - he would hug anyone in sight.
We were told Andrew had Down syndrome, which was a bit of a shock, but everyone loved him and so it was accepted.
He excelled in English classes, was an avid reader and understood what he read. He could spell words so easily. If someone didn’t know how to spell a word, he could.
Andrew accepted Jesus into his life and embraced the change in his life wholeheartedly. He could be heard in the coffee shops in Steinbach unashamedly telling people about Jesus. He was a warrior for Jesus.
He went to vocational school and did well. Later he went to work shop and made his own money, and made many friends along the way.
Andy moved into Minnedosa, in the care of his sister Ruth, where he resided after Mom’s death, and then moved to Neepawa to a community living facility for special needs.
He worked many years helping others. Everyone loved him; those were happy years for him. He loved wrestling and could be heard cheering for his favourite wrestlers. He was an excellent bowler and won many awards. Andy was very athletic, participating in swimming, running and one arm push-ups. He also enjoyed board games such as checkers and crokinole and won most games. He enjoyed riding his bike. In many ways, Andy was a deep thinker and enjoyed writing out his thoughts on paper.
It was decided for Andrew to move to Torrington, AB with his sister Catherine who looked after him until his health declined. He then moved to Westview Care Community Long Term Care where he spent the last part of his life. Many thanks go to Catherine for her loving and compassionate care of Andy. Many thanks to all the staff at Westview.
Andy is now in the arms of Jesus and joins his sister Joanne Malkov and parents Abe and Helen Funk.
Surviving are: brother David, sister Shirley and Daniel, sister Mary, sister Catherine, brother Danny and Dianne, sister Ruth and Jerry, brother Jon, sister Grace, brother Tim and Rose, numerous uncles and aunts, nephews and nieces, and many friends.
