Darlyne Kliewer Klassen, born February 1, 1939, passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at the age of 77 at the Bethesda Regional Health Centre, Steinbach, Manitoba. Darlyne was the youngest child and last survivor of Gerhard Kliewer and Maria Penner Kliewer. Darlyne's mother was a widow and, therefore, Darlyne completed Grade 9 and then had to go to work. Shortly thereafter, she started her career at the local telephone system and later on was hired by MTS; she worked on and off for over a period of 30 years. She attended the Free Church in Steinbach, Manitoba and was baptized upon confession of her faith at the approximate age of 16.
When Darlyne was 16, she met Ernest Klassen at the Steinbach school and they became good friends. In September 1, 1957, they were married. Darlyne continued to work for the telephone company, and in 1960 Russell was born to them on December 25th. Their second son, David, was born to them on August 17, 1965. Later on, Darlyne suffered from various health issues, however, recovered from these conditions and resumed her career with MTS. After living in Steinbach for five years, they moved to their farm just outside of Steinbach, where they raised their children and saw their 6 grandchildren grow up. In 2014, they moved back to Steinbach for their retirement. Sadly, Darlyne could not enjoy the benefits of her new home due to failing health.
Darlyne is survived by her husband Ernest, her two sons: Russell (Betsy), and David (Martha) and their families which include six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her mother and father, four brothers and two sisters.
The funeral service was held on Monday, March 21, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Grace Mennonite Church, 430 Third Street, Steinbach, MB. The interment will took place after the service at the Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach, MB.
The family would like to thank the many nurses and doctors who cared for Darlyne at the Bethesda Regional Health Centre, Steinbach, MB.
