ARTHUR STEG
January 25 1929 - March 9, 2016

It was time, he was ready to go even though we weren’t ready to let him go…

Peacefully, on March 09, 2016 Art passed away at the Vita District Hospital at the age of 87.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Lorie (Barry Kehler) grandchildren Vicky (Rossel), Darcy and great granddaughter Zoe. Daughter Wendy (Eddie Fisher) grandchildren Clayton (Candice), Travis (Stacy), Camie (Glenn) and Derek (Janique). Also left to mourn his loss is one sister, Lill Schultz, and many nieces and nephews. Art was predeceased by our Mom, Eleanor Steg in 2007, Brother Will, and his parents, Henry and Minnie Steg.

Dad was born and raised in the Friedensthal district. He married Mom on September 24 1955 and together they farmed in the Ridgeville area until their retirement in 1990. They built their home in Stuartburn where he still resided, determined to remain independent.

Mom and Dad loved gardening, which he continued to do, even up to last year. He made sure to make enough pickles every year to supply at all our family gatherings, and generously gave garden vegetables to all who wanted or needed.

Wood working was also one of his favourite hobbies. His many works of “Art” adorn our homes and yards, from unique bird houses, toy chests, barns and many shelves he made with care.

Memories of our childhood were of Dad singing and playing his guitar. He loved to share stories of his playing years and the talented musicians he had the opportunity to play and harmonize with. He still enjoyed many evenings strumming with friends on his treasured Gibson. We will never forget his voice as we were given a copy of their CD entitled “A Touch of Silver”.

Over the years Mom and Dad traveled miles to support and cheer on the grandkids in all their sporting events and were always available to taxi our kids around.

Retirement kept Mom & Dad busy traveling and camping with our families and friends. They especially enjoyed their cabin at Moose Lake, and welcomed many guests over the years. Dad will be fondly remembered for giving you a straight shot of Whiskey first thing in the morning, whether you wanted it or not.

We would like to thank family and friends for keeping in touch with Dad through visits, phone calls, cards and music evenings, especially during this past year when his health prevented him from “toodling around”. Dad was delighted to spend a wonderful afternoon driving through the Flats checking crops and reminiscing with his two dear friends.

We wish to express our heartfelt thank you to the paramedics, nursing staff and Dr. Penner at the Vita District Hospital for all the care and compassion they gave to our Dad.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Vita District Palliative Care Unit.

Funeral Services will be held on March 24 2016, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Friedensthal Mb at 2 pm. Private Family interment at the Friedensthal Cemetery.
