STEVEN BRADLEY HRUDA
December 10, 1954 - March 12, 2016
It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of an incredible man. A husband, father, Papa, Son, Brother, Uncle and friend. A man who was very loved and had a profound effect on our lives. Steve was a determined and strong man. A common thread in his life was his resilience. He never gave up, always putting one foot in front of the other no matter how deep the valley in front of him. He was generous with his time, always the first to help but never asking for anything in return. Even in his last days he put all of us first, more concerned with our needs than his. He remained sweet and witty and brought joy and laughter to his hospital room. His hard working, tough hands became a symbol of his strength as we held them tightly.
Steve’s love for simple things in life was obvious to us…a motorcycle ride, a thunderstorm, a cold can of Coke, a good vintage find, the garden, the history channel, Duck Dynasty, bonfires, cutting grass, a good game of crib, curling, homemade soup, peach pie and hugs and kisses from all of us. Sharon spent many weekend mornings in the shop enjoying her coffee and chatting with Steve, dreaming of their future plans together. Steve loved Gaither Gospel music, that’s when he felt God’s presence the most. The music played in his shop nonstop. He loved collecting Coca Cola memorabilia and restoring vintage cars; his greatest achievement was restoring a plum crazy purple 1971 Challenger. He loved working and tinkering in his shop. There was always a project on the go, but if you needed help with your project, he was there in a flash. Never taking payment for hours of labour, he loved helping others.
Steve had a strong loyalty to his family and took pride in taking care of them. He was a devoted father who always involved himself in the details of his children’s lives. He supported, respected and loved them unconditionally. He was everything a father should be and his children loved him deeply. Steve was a fun loving Papa to 4 grandchildren. He showed them cool stuff, he taught them to shoot bi bi guns, drive the Razor, wrestled and made them giggle until it hurt! He invested valuable time and lessons into them and they had big plans to fix up cars and ride horses as they got older. Heaven awaits all those moments to come.
Steve found his true love in Sharon and they were married 41 years. There is a deep and incredible beauty in a marriage that lasts decades and they knew love, they knew respect and they knew loyalty. They walked many mountains and valley’s together, ever faithful to each other and to God. The legacy of their love will remain a beautiful inheritance to their children.
Steve was a plumber by trade but was known to be a ‘jack of all trades.’ He worked as a plumber for 40 years and in 2000, Sharon and Steve bought a working farm in Landmark. He worked both jobs and loved life on the farm He had an incredibly strong work ethic and never sat still for too long.
Steve was diagnosed with terminal cancer on Feb 25, 2016 and the Lord gave us 17 more days with him; precious time to love him, touch him, talk with him, laugh with him and tell him just how much we loved him. What a blessed treasure those moments are to us. On Saturday, March 12 he passed away peacefully holding Sharon’s hand with his family by his side. He was ushered into heaven with praise and thanksgiving for his life and an ever living hope of eternity in God’s kingdom coming to fruition.
Steve was a man of strong faith, he believed in the power of the cross, in the strength of Christ’s love and the beauty that would await him when he came face to face with his Lord and Saviour. His faith in God was obvious and unshakeable in his last days, he showed phenomenal strength and courage. We celebrate his homecoming with him!
