Helena Goertzen (nee Goertzen) was born on Apr. 12, 1920 to Heinrich and Anna Goertzen at Lost River, SK, and passed away on Tuesday, Mar. 8, 2016.
She was baptized upon confession of her faith at the Silberfeld Chortitzer Church. In 1937 she married our father, Abram Goertzen, and they shared the joys and sorrows of life. They had 11 children, seven sons and four daughters.
Mom was always busy and singing. She loved gardening and flowers, and was known for her beautiful flowers when she lived on McKenzie Ave. She also loved doing handwork, and crocheted many items for her family.
Mom was predeceased by her loving husband Abram in 1991, her parents, parents-in-law, twin sons Benjamin and Henry in 1941, son Albert in 2004, son Walter in 2006, two granddaughters, two great-grandsons, two sisters, five brothers, eight brothers-in-law, and eight sisters-in-law.
She leaves to mourn her children, John (Jeannette), Kathy (Henry), Marie (Ernie), Larry (Leona), Marlene (Elmer), Ken (Leona), and Carol (Richard); daughters-in-law, Donna and Marilyn; her brother Abe; 29 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Mar. 11 at 2 p.m. at the Steinbach CMC Church, 479 Hanover St, with viewing prior to the service, and burial at Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach.
If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
