Gertrude Reimer (nee Reimer) of Blumenort went to her heavenly home to live with our Lord and Saviour at the age of 91. We are looking forward to being reunited with her there.
Mom was born October 7, 1924 at her home in the Linden area (near Landmark) to her parents Abram R. E. and Helena Reimer. Mom was born into a family of 12 although three of them died in infancy, leaving nine brothers and sisters. Remaining is one brother Jake (Mary) Reimer and one sister Mary (Pete) Plett, and one sister-in-law Mary Reimer.
On December 19, 1943, she married Martin, who predeceased her on June 14, 2002. They lived in the R.M. of Ste. Anne on a dairy farm for most of their years together. When Dad passed away she moved to Woodhaven in Steinbach in January 2003. When her health decreased in 2011, she moved to Bethesda Place where she lived until she passed away.
As children, Mom was the spiritual leader in the family, reading Uncle Arthur’s bedtime stories was a nightly ritual. This has become a tradition in our home and our childrens’ home. Mom always insisted we went to Sunday school.
Mom was a hard working “hands-on” farmer’s wife. She milked cows, mowed the large lawn, cooked, canned, and took care of a large garden.
She found time to do things she enjoyed, like quilting, painting quilting squares, embroidering and sewing clothes. She had been involved in the stroke club and canning in Ontario.
Remaining to cherish Gertrude’s memory are: two daughters Eleanor (Cornie) Reimer, Teressa (Ken) Martel; three sons: Jim (Mary) Reimer, Larry (Jenny) Reimer and Arlen Reimer; her grandchildren: Victor (Renee), Evangeline, Roxanne (Don), Rhonda (Lee), Joshua (Mica), Benjamin, Pamela (Wade), Delicia, Shayne (Vanessa), Shawna (Jeff), Craig Jordan, Shellia, Amber (Justin); as well as 16 great-grandchildren, families and friend.
The funeral service for Gertrude Reimer will be held on Friday, October 16, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB, with viewing at the chapel prior to the service. Burial will follow at Blumenort Cemetery.
Special thank you to Dr. G. van der Byl and the nursing staff at Bethesda Place for the excellent care Mom received with kind and encouraging words to us all in her final days.
