DOROTHY LEVENEC

We are broken hearted to announce the passing of our loving wife, mother, baba and great baba. Mom passed away September 15, 2014 after a fearless battle with cancer.

She leaves to grieve her loving husband Mike of 55 years, son Allen & (Rhonda), son Ken & (Colleen), daughter Marilyn &(Henry), grandchildren Danielle (Neil) Ival, Derek & (Ashlee), Dannalee & (Chris), Devon & (Kylee), Breanne and Meagan and great grandchild Aria Ival, sisters Kay Prosick and Sophie & (Pete)Mitch and Brother Pete & (Verna) Sokoliuk, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Mom was born in Sirko Manitoba on August 8, 1935 to part of a very large family. From a young age she learned to be a homemaker. Mom looked after her family and went on to marry dad on June 6, 1959. They started a family and had 3 children that mom always lovingly nurtured and cared for. She spent many years at home raising her children. When the children had grown up she worked as a home care aid for seventeen years and then went on to work as a cook at the Vita Health Center from which she retired. Mom worked at the things she did the best, caring for everyone and cooking which she was a master at. Mom was a loyal member of the Ukrainian Women’s Association for most of her life. After retirement mom enjoyed doing crafts and was well known for making her Ukrainian Wedding Bread. Mom loved dancing and kicking up her heals at the old time dances with dad and of course having a dyboszeh. Anyone that ever walked through the door for a visit was welcomed, were always fed and made to feel at home. She was the most loving and caring individual that you could ever meet. Anyone would be blessed to have her as a part of their lives. She was the best wife, mom, baba and friend and no one could ever take her place. We will never forget her and although the cancer took her away from us, nothing can ever take away our memories. All we have to do is remember and she will be there in our hearts.

The family would like to thank the Bethesda Medicine Unit, Steinbach Cancer Care as well as the Vita Hospital staff. Your kindness and caring nature for our mom has not gone unnoticed. We would also like to thank everyone that visited mom and prayed for her and our family.

Prayers will be said at the Vita Community Hall Vita, Manitoba on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at 7:00pm.

Funeral Service will be held at St Elias Ukrainian Orthodox Parish Sirko, Manitoba on Friday, September 19, 2014 at 10:00am with internment in the parish cemetery.
